Here's a good question for you, Swen - at the last Panel from Hell, you've said that this game's central themes are about power, the corrupting nature of it, and how far would you go to achieve it. Something of that nature. Where is that in the game?

Press 2 for Power!

But maybe that was truer before the obvious rewrites.

Swen dashing off with the bag and not finishing the game while prancing around crowing about how enlightened he is.

Gygax and Ameson weren't degenerates. At least all who enjoy D&D can take confort in that. It was a nerd's game before it somehow became a playing ground to gender benders and fetishists.

Greenwood came to the fray much later and was tamer in the 80s due to 'kwanzan society still having some sanity left.

There was a rumored Helia or some shit, which was supposed to be a bard halfling affected by lycanthropy.

Too bad they sacked the concept entirely for unknown reasons. In part probably because they listened to the feedback about making minor NPCs that appeared in EA companions.
In part because the user base on their forum at some point made them realize what a risk it was to allow the player to have canonically sex with a child-sized lady.
All they have to do is make him/her a dwarf and problem solved.

There are three elves with different color and two half elves, yet they refuse to include even one single dwarf.

Short races aren't romanceable ('cause nobody wants to have sex with midgets) so i predict they'll eventually disappear from those kind of games altoghether.

Romance doesn't necessarily mean sex, plus BG3 had sex scenes for lizards and bears.
And one of the main criticisms of the cast was that there aren't dwarven/goblin/weird companions, just elf overload.
The other big "romance" RPG series, Dragon Age, has dwarven and orc (qunari are basically orcs) companions, and even a stone golem. They are liked by the playerbase, which is a big overlap with BG3's playerbase.

Just got to Baldurs gate. I'm starting to feel a bit of a fatigue. 89h.

The combat is pretty great. Gameplay is super fun.

But honestly, the party doesn't feels like party. Idk , but compared to Pathfinder or Rogue Trader, they don't interact between themselves or interject mid conversation nearly as often as Wrath where you had companion have whole ass conversations while the big villain were doing their monologue.

Also I really miss a 6 man party. 4 is too low.

The companions in BG 3 in general only cares about themselves. They don't give a shit about what other people in the team do. The only exception is in chapter 1(again, everything interesting about the game is almost exclusively in chatper 1) where shadow heart and la'zel fight with each other, once. And it's never mentioned again.

They might disagree with what others do, but they will only complain about it to the PC and then just forget about it.

And they will never do anything on their own unless the PC is with them. Normally in CRPG personal quests are often progressed by the companions themselves, they will tell you that they have found the information they need but they need your help for the next move or something. In BG 3 there is none of that.

They are basically lifeless mannequins when not interacting with the PC.

So I made vampire fag a bard and he apparently has several(and I mean several) dozen lines voicing vicious mockery and cutting words? Many of them pretty funny too(Character makes absolute sense as a bard btw, shouldn't be a rogue to begin with).

From what I gathered they did this for every companion... pretty impressive.

That is one thing I get from this game. It is certainly a passion project but also Vincke and his gang have an immense lack of focus and direction. Imagine how many resources they invested in things which 99% of players won't ever see.

How many players will play Wyll or Laezel origin for instance? And yet they obviously cut corners on things which were more important(i.e: upper city and hag's coven in Baldur's Gate)

That's the issue, when comes to RPG you kinda need to make this sorta of sacrificies, especialy one as open as this one.

Otherwise it slowly becomes Bioware or Bethesda , where you're doing all content in way so all players to experience and end up leaving all other branching path lacking or nearly identical, and by the end of it you have Skyrim Civil War, where Imperals and Stormcloaks end up being the same faction with different colors. I'm sure 99% of people won't be using talk to animals but it's pretty neat that you can see the little frindship betwee Scratch and Owlbear Cub.

Nah, I'm pretty sure that is a feature most players use since it is so easily acessible(infinite potions). Same thing with speak with the dead. I imagine only the dumbest casual missed that out.

Voiced bard insults for Karlach and Gale? Unique scenes for every origin character? Those are missable for most players.

You know the most fun build I have played so far is a champion/assassin multiclass on honour mode. On paper I know it seems worse than the perennial assassin/gloom stalker, but it isn't.

The idea is to have lower critical threshold(18 right off the bat with improved critical passive + elixir of viciousness) and set yourself up to attack with advantage every round. You will be crit fishing very reliably and there will be some cool tactics and positioning involved. I seem to be critting at least 1 out of every 3 attacks. Sometimes I fish 2 crits in one round.

Assassin + alert gives you guaranteed advantage on all first round attacks. Deathstalker mantle makes you invisible every time you take out an enemy(therefore giving you advantage). Then there is hiding, using guiding bolt, etc.

Strenght being main stat - the single one the game allows you to get to 20 by early chapter 2 without a single ASI being spent(Cutting a deal with Ethel and then convincing Astarion to bite the drow creep in moonrise towers). Extremely mobile(dash bonus action and being to jump on top of buildings as well) and you can also shove reliably and throw enemies and objects around.

Didn't have nearly as much fun playing Assassin/Stalker and Paladin. Also didn't plan my rounds or actually use tactics as much.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
Eh, devoting a class to improving critical range by 1 sounds kinda bad to me.

Also you mention Strenght based - but are you using Finesse weapons with that? Because you can only Sneak Attack with Finesse weapons.
