<a href="http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/09/mass-effect-mov.html">Variety</a> is claiming that a movie adaption of BioWare's cinematic gaming masterpiece <b><a href="http://masseffect.bioware.com/">Mass Effect</a></b> is on the way.
<br>
<blockquote>"Mass Effect" has started its journey to the big screen. Numerous sources have confirmed that producer Avi Arad has optioned the rights to Bioware's sci-fi RPG from the developer's parent publisher Electronic Arts.</blockquote>
<br>
So who is this Mr. Arad?
<br>
<blockquote>Arad was for a long time the head of Marvel's movie business, where he helped start the new wave of actually good comic book movie franchises like "X-Men," "Spider-Man," and "Iron Man" (OK, there was "Spider-Man 3" and "Elektra" and "Ghost Rider," but there's still no denying Marvel movies are much improved). Now he runs his own production company and has been getting into videogame adaptations, starting recently with "Lost Planet."</blockquote>
<br>
There's a good chance this project won't get off the ground, but it still might be fun to speculate on the casting. Christopher Walken as Commander Shephard, perhaps?

Will there be lots of collar-grabbing and body bag related action?

I certainly hope so, it needs to be EXTREME to fully capture the spirit of Mass Effect...

Whoever they get, I'm sure I could write a better movie. They should also avoid as much use of CGI as possible. Just look at how great Hellboy 2 looks with use of puppetry and CGI and good old makeup.

You forgot one ingredient in the recipe: talent.

I thought the game was already cinematic. Would a movie be even more cinematic? Wow, that sounds incredible. 'A cinematic experience', they said. That was one of the features of the game right? Now we have a movie. What a brilliant idea. Maybe they should have made a movie in the first place and forgot about the game. Yes this joke is drawing out but do you get it, faggot

Iron Man is probably the best Marvel movie after Spider-Man 2.

Even if a good Mass Effect movie is made, i.e. a parody of B-movie action flicks, it won't be well received critically or financially. If a bad Mass Effect movie is made, i.e. A SERIOUS ACTION BLOCKBUSTER DARK GRITTY SCEINCE OPERA FICTION, it will probably be well received critically and financially.

This game has approximately a 0% chance of a good movie being based on it. 1% chance if they up the rating to R and include alien sex scenes.

Since Shepard's appearance is customizable, they'll have to cast him using that anonymizing suit from A Scanner Darkly. It's the only way.

I have seen people say Spider-Man 3 is better than The Dark Knight.

But hey, people enjoy the shitty Marvel comics too (their last good ones were Ennis' run on Punisher).

They're making a movie of a game trying to be a movie.

Have you heard about Max Payne: The Movie? It's light years ahead in this particular brand of fail. The trailer for it looked nice, though.

Indeed it is, good sir, there is quite the fail detected in the premise of a movie based on the game "Mass Effect". Quite the roxor, good sir.

Good fucking luck getting anything worthwhile out of that fucking dog.

To be honest, 'Lost Planet' was one of the worst games I ever had the misfortune to play.

Was Mass Effect a game with lesbians? If so, will the move based on it be lesbian porn? I'd probably watch it in that case.
