Could someone explain the secret weapons in this game? All I have are the TT rules and chainsaws are the only weapon they have rules for. So whats with Deathrollers, Pogo Sticks and the like?

None of the others *do* anything. There's no "death roller" skill, the death roller is like a normal character, only with 6 STR, stand firm, foul player and a host of other inherent skills. The pogo stick I didn't check up on, but I know he has leap to jump over players, and long legs allowing him to make easy interceptions. So they're not so much unique weapons as they are badly overpowered...

Fanatic and chainsaw are different. Chainsaw you've seen in the rulebook. Fanatic is also in the rulebook, under ball & chain.

Gobbos are some kind of SPP dispenser, I think.
(shameless ad for Ogg's BB avatars)
You're a real friend!

And Ogg Jr gets block. You're making your pappy proud, son!
Blood can't lie.

As for the secret weapons, they're just good players (many feats indeed) which will be expelled as soon as the referee has a minute free. That is:
-when a team score a TD
-at the end of a period
Most of them (the pogostick may look like a dodger but he's also pretty good at injuring players who are on the ground already) are here to cause injuries, so it's a good idea to send them in the first period.

However, coupled with the referee bribe, you could make good use of them since you can stop them from being sent out.

Maybe not so much on a Gobbo team but with Dwarves you could ideally keep your Deathroller for at least a full half with TDs or more, depending on how you handle the ball when it's in your possession.

Also, I'm not sure, but I believe that if a secret weapon is KO'd when you score a TD or end a half, they don't get sent out. That or that dwarf team had too many bribes.

No, they're sent off. If they were KOd they could make return rolls, but you see them in the injury box with yellow exclamation marks over their heads.

I KOd a death roller early on in the first half. He sat in the KO box after my touch down, and came back in at the beginning of the second half.

I've played my chaos team up to a team rating of ~2400 and it's time to either start a new team or stop playing. Everyone has over a 1,000,000 in inducements and I'm getting slaughtered. It's kept the games close, but I chose chaos to kill, not to be killed.

Out of curiosity, are you playing Classic or Blitz mode?

I had the same problem with my Dwarven team in Blitz mode, but I'm hoping to avoid it by playing in Classic mode this time around, because there are much fewer options to spend inducements on.

I'm just confirming a question you either misunderstood or ignored - and it's not something I would have bet my nuts on before seeing it happen. You wouldn't have either, but in hindsight it's easy to confirm the "obvious" results.

I also have a question for you - I think I saw a screenshot of your minotaur scoring a touchdown. Was that a complete fluke, or do you use him to move the ball. I've avoided it like the plague because of wild animal and loner. Of course, since it's a GW game, planning only gets you so far and my minotaur picked up a fumble 3-4 squares from the end zone with three turns left:

1st turn: Hand Off to Beastman. Wild Animal Fail. Loner Fail.

2nd turn: Run into Endzone. Wild Animal Fail. Loner Success. Wild Animal Fail.

3rd turn: Blitz opponent then finish move into endzone. Wild Animal Success. Two Skulls. Loner Fail.

Blitz. Let us know how Classic plays out, I've been considering it for my next team as well.

Oh right, missed the "if" there, sorry for the confusion.

Yeah, I could've confirmed that as well, I've seen KO'd secret weapons return. It does make a whallop of sense, since they need to be on the field to be sent off.

obediah said:

My minotaur has never scored a touchdown. Rabidredneck the chaos warrior did twice, but otherwise it's been almost completely beastmen.

In fact, the minotaur has never even touched the ball so far. Not even an accidental bounce-back into his hands. He might as well have the no hands skill as far as I'm concerned.

Match 16!

An exhibition match, as said, we're just playing for the honours. I believe the playoff system in BB is the standard, #1 from group 1 against #2 from group 2 and #2 from group 1 against #1 from group 2, but I'm not sure. Regardless, it doesn't really matter.

The Elves get 500k in inducements (nice, guys) and hire Jordell Freshbreeze, legendary elf player, as well as buying an extra reroll. I'm receiving.

update16_004.jpg

This is their <s>ent</s>, sorry, "Treeman", a hulk of a big 'un. With strength 6, armor value 10, mighty blow, stand firm and thick skill, this guy is a tank, and easily the most powerful base player in the game.

His biggest (only?) weakness is take root, rendering him immobile after a while. He can still fight, but can't walk.

update16_005.jpg

The legend. A stack of dodge, avoid and catch skills to go with an agility score of 5 quickly indicate his value to the team.

update16_009.jpg

Correction. The value he might have had to the team, if Vortexx hadn't just knocked him out of the game.

update16_015.jpg

Silellak has the ball and moves behind the line of scrimmage. With some assistance, Jim managed to bring the <s>ent</s>sorry "treeman", so they're down their most dangerous players. The Slaanesh Seaskuas seem to specialize in this kind of early "taking out the worst"-slaughter.

update16_017.jpg

Derp-de-derp, Shuma died again. Brought him back to life, and no permanent injuries. Lucking out there, you potential euthanasia candidate you.

update16_020.jpg

We have most elves down as Mantiis stuns another one.

update16_026.jpg

But they show effective blitz, Silellak is knocked down and the ball bounces into Ogg Jr's hands.

update16_027.jpg

Darrrr! Don't try to dodge me, you fool.

update16_030.jpg

Mantiis clears a path. Considering the effective blitz the elves are putting on, I'm going to cut this party short.

update16_034.jpg

TD for OJ part the second!

By this point they've got 3 players in the injury ward and one KOd, but with three turns they still have a good shot at scoring.

update16_037.jpg

Unless their first dodge attempt fails.

update16_044.jpg

Trying to blitz their passer.

update16_049.jpg

We fail! Luckily, so does his pass. Phew, got out by an inch on that one.

Half-Time!
Another player joins the ranks of the KOd, so they're fielding only 8. Easy-peasy.

update16_060.jpg

Got their baller trying to make a play for the endzone here. I blitzed in HanoverF but he fails to down the elf, who then flees back into his own half.

update16_065.jpg

OldSkoolKamikaze finally brings him down.

update16_067.jpg

Hurray for NiM the bloodthirsty!

update16_070.jpg

And you don't see this every day. Rabidredneck manages to injure their Treeman. They apparently saved up their apothecary for this occasion, and bring him back for the next possession. Fat lot of good that's going to do them. Guys, it's turn 12 and you don't have the ball. Maybe you should have used the apothecary on your hero in turn 1, huh?

By this point injuries and KOs have seemingly become so common-place that the game stops replaying them every time. 'k?

A short tussle for the ball follows, and it's knocked out of the pitch. OH NO!

update16_074.jpg

Oh, cool.

update16_079.jpg

Silellak picks it up, and this lone elf here makes a hilarious desperate blitzing attempt on his own, with two red dice on his side. He rolls up an attacker down and defender stumbles, so that's it for that blitz attempt.

update16_084.jpg

Two turns later Silellak punches it in, and proceeds to imitate a bird...hurray?

And that's it, I kick off to 8 players next turn, and nothing exciting happens in the last turns of the match.

update16_091.jpg

Bastards moved me up another tax bracket. Paying 20k a match now.

6 KOs and 4 casualties is a-ok by me.

update16_092.jpg

Vortexx becomes level 4, having been named MVP for taking out their star player in his first move of the match, and becomes our first mega-kamehameha level 4 WARRIAH!

update16_095.jpg

Disgusting! Dude grew another arm. By now, my regular tactic is to leave Biz off the pitch when kicking off (which is why he's not playing much lately, should give him more time), while Vortexx as the kicker has to be on the pitch for kickoffs. The extra arm allows him not only to make pickups and catches more easily, but also to attempt interceptions more effectively if needed.

And still not a single stat-up. I've had 22 level-ups. In that time I've rolled a double only three times, and never a stat bonus. If I'm not mistaken, the chance to get a stat bonus boils down to one in 6, so statistically I should have three by now. I have zero. ZERO...

...

...

What the fuck is this for a shit?

Seriously, what are the odds of me never rolling a stat bonus? The dice, they are raping me!

Anyway, in the other group, the humans and orcs are kicked out. That's both sad (orcs would be a new race to play against) and good (I fucking hate playing orcs). The dwarves are taking on the wood elves in one semi-final, and we're up against the Skavenblight Scramblers!

And Scramblers they are; no ogre on their roster, but 3 3+ level gutter runner, with an odd skillset one 'em (one seems to be made to fight (block, horns, stripp ball), one to leap (leap, +1 AV) and one to, errr, annoy you (+1 MA, disturbing presence)). Bought yet another reroll (I do so love rerolls, and fully plan to max out on 'em) so expect another big fat whallop of inducement for the coming match.

Do re-rolls raise the team value? Or are they a 'safe' money-sink? I mean, more players mean higher TV. But don't see cheerleaders, apothecary or re-rolls raise it. Am I right about this?

Oh, and feel the hate. In my campaign, having played a measly 4 matches, my catcher has had two levelups, and both were stat increases. :P
MA 10, AV 8 on an elf. Should probably have taken a skill instead of the +1 to AV, but I'd be darned if I let a stat increase go to waste.

So yeah. Guess the dice gotta have someone to hate, if they're to be able to shower love on someone else.

Ah - must have been a particularly minotaury-looking beastman.

Same here on mostly beastmen. I started working my chaos warriors into the mix when I found myself with 3 lvl5+ beastmen and 4 lvl 2-3 chaos warriors. Then the inducements spiraled up and now my beastman and chaos warriors spend a lot of time in the infirmary.

My player values add up to just 1480. My team value is 2010. So I'm pretty sure they add, but I don't know the rules, someone else will no doubt explain.

Spread of LP wise, I'm doing pretty well, the only glaring flaw being that the three "new guys" (veterans by now) Mantiis, Ogg Jr and Silellak keep lagging behind as I don't give them (especially Silellak and Ogg Jr) enough playtime and opportunities. But even Silellak has 3 SPP now, and only he and Mantiis are still level 1.

roster.jpg

Vortexx and Biz are runners (Vortexx a more multi-talented dude, Biz a specialist dodger/runner). Rabidredneck and kingcomrade are blitzers with skillsets to cause plenty of injuries, as is Shuma though he usually plays inside the line. They clearly lead the pack.

obediah said:

Definitely. The only inducements available are rerolls, apothecaries (AI never buys these), bribe the refs, star players and mercenaries. The AI tends to only buy mercenaries for replacements, and always underspends on inducements, often leaving more than 100k in the pool.

Blitz is kind of designed to make longer playtime more challenging, I guess, both in the inducement rules and in the aging rules.

Gotta love the fact that even the star player for the Elves has an AV of 7.

I'm at the top tax bracket, I now lose 70,000 every match, so I'm being victory taxed out of existence. But even with their million+ inducements I'm still steamrolling the opposition. in Blitz it must suck though with all the ways they can use inducements to fuck with you.

I've only gotten 3 skillups, The first two were early and +MA/AV so I just got block instead, but then I got +agi for a beastman, and since he's always picking up/passing the ball he's up to level 6 now.

If it's 1/6 all the time, then there's a slight chance that after 22 level ups you won't get stat bonus. It's little less than 2%. Feel lucky!

Could you post current career stats? It would be interesting to see some summary after all these matches.

At the end of this competition, sure.

Match 17!

Skaven! Er...again. The predictable whallop of inducement follows, and they take in Headsplitter, he of many injuries caused. As I mentioned, they don't have an ogre of their own, so Headsplitter's it for them. They also buy an extra reroll, and are the receiving team...

update17_014.jpg

Nothing really happens until turn 3, when NiM KOs their thrower and jars the ball loose. Oh, and fails to pick it up, but oh well, can't have everything.

update17_021.jpg

Monocause has the ball!

update17_022.jpg

Oh wait. No. No he doesn't.

update17_026.jpg

They have the ball for a bit, until monocause exacts his rewenge!

update17_032.jpg

Cojones clears the way.

update17_038.jpg

Dyeah, baybeeeee!

Remember how I said I needed to give Silellak more playing time, so he could get more SPPs? I sub him in on the next possession, and, well...

update17_039.jpg

Ah well. 's the game for him, I'm not apothecarying him back no way no how, not in the first half.

You'd figure the skavens would go easy on him, huh...

Half-time!

update17_047.jpg

Ugh, finally. After struggling with their line for what seems like aeons, rabidredneck (who else?) injures Headsplittah.

update17_049.jpg

Booyah. See, buy, fly, Splitter.

update17_057.jpg

They actually manage to KO kingcomrade, but the numerical superiority is starting to count. Jim Cojones takes out snitch as a boxed up SerratedBiz moves towards the endzone.

update17_062.jpg

I move him away just to see him boxed up again. There's no point trying to run from Skavens, I guess. Ogg Jr takes care off hard-to-spell-name guy there.

update17_064.jpg

Biz dodges out of the box! Dodgy McDodgerson would've been proud!

update17_069.jpg

Oooh, baby, are you feeling it?

The punishment really happened in that last possession, skavens are now down 6 (two KOs and 4 injuries) as they receive the ball.

update17_075.jpg

Oh God, mutants. What a weirdo.

update17_081.jpg

We literally knock out their entire line. Booyah. The only good skaven? A dead skaven.

Still, nothing stopping them from slipping between the tackles and attempting their traditional end-of-match ass-fuckery.

update17_082.jpg

Fail.

update17_083.jpg

Jim Cojones checks to see if they want some salt to go with that wound.

Amazingly enough (and typically enough for Skavens), they pick up the ball, make a run for the left side, and attempt another pass!

update17_086.jpg

AND IT'S GOOD!

update17_089.jpg

Booyah. OldSkoolKamikaze tentacle rapes away their touchdown dream.

Going from the available reroll score (6/5), I might actually have enough rerolls...for now.

update17_090.jpg

Nice earnings help to alleviate some of the pain of the evil taxmen.

update17_091.jpg

Pretty good. SerratedBiz is a point removed from a level-up.

update17_092.jpg

Rabidredneck isn't, and joins the elite ranks. I give him a tackle now, with the plan to add on a serrated tail later, but even without the tail, dude's a hurting machine.

Wow, that was painful to read. Reminds me of how lucky I've been with injuries so far. I know it's just a matter of time til a Dwarf, Chaos, or Orc team leaves me with 3 or 4 permanent injuries/death.

You'd figure the skavens would go easy on him, huh...

They can sniff out a traitor.

Match 18!

FINALS, BITCH!

The dwarves narrowly inched past the wood elves, 3-2.

update18_002.jpg

One of their blockers is injured. No biggy. As you can see, this is a Pumpin' Iron team, with a massively experienced blitzer and troll slayer, ready to do some damage.

And joy, they get 450k in inducements and - on top of a reroll - hire star player Grim Ironjaw, a slightly bigger version of the normal troll slayers. Three troll slayers, two blitzers, all at high levels?

sharkattack.jpg

bigdog.jpg

imscrewed.jpg

Receiving the ball, at least.

They pretty much immediately starting blowing holes in my line on my strong side. I clearly need to outplay them, not outfight them.

update18_010.jpg

So Biz makes his move to outrun the attack.

update18_013.jpg

Their response? RAAAAARGH.

Just need one going for it to escape this onslaught. I've never been in such a rush to score before, but I just WANT THE PAIN TO STOP.

update18_014.jpg

Phew.

Do I have to kick off again? Can't we just go home and drink lemonade?

update18_022.jpg

Mommy?

Ok fuck this shit. Time to man up and take them head on! RARGH BLITZ RIGHT IN THE CENTER.

update18_024.jpg

Oh, right, they can run around that. Doi.

update18_029.jpg

Thank you, OldSkoolKamikaze.

update18_030.jpg

Ding! There goes Mantiis, following Rabidredneck's KO (not shown).

Thankfully it's half-time. They have 0 injuries, 0 KOs, I have 1 injury and 1 KO (Rabidredneck recovers but Mantiis does not), so it's still 11 vs 11.

Half-time! Gotta T off again.

update18_034.jpg

Suck it, bitches!

update18_038.jpg

Boom! I forgo my foolish line-brawl this time and blitz in heavily, and NiM exacts the toll of all the mental anguish caused us on their runner.

update18_041.jpg

Shuma has it!

update18_045.jpg

HURRAY FOR SHUMA!

And all my KO'd players return for the next down!

update18_053.jpg

Jim Cojones takes out Grim Ironjaw, and for the first time in the match it feels like I have some superiority on the field. You might not be able to tell from the screens, but most of the match was spent prone on the pitch, by most players.

update18_055.jpg

And Silellak adds to the scale by taking out a blocker! Hurray Silellak!

update18_060.jpg

They're sneaking in on the sideline again. Cojones attempt to stop this nefarious deedling ends up with him flat on his face.

update18_063.jpg

But Rabidredneck rushes in to save the day!

update18_066.jpg

The stats accurately reflect a lack of dominance, right up to the point where Cojones KOd their star player I was spending the match running for my life.

update18_067.jpg

Some piffling drops of SPP are the natural consequence.

update18_068.jpg

A winner is you!

Gained a whallop of prestige. And we did well leading the tournament in our traditional best areas, Monocause best defender with 4 knock downs, SerratedBiz best runner with 118 yards gained, Jim Cojones most violent with 4 injuries, dead.

update18_073.jpg

SerratedBiz grows a second head! Ewwww.

Not really the best of skills for a chaos team, but I figured since he had dodge, why not grow a head and get +1 on all dodge rolls? Essentially, it's now two tries for 2+ rolls on normal dodges, allowing Biz to move much more freely on the pitch.

update18_075.jpg

Roster. Silellak and Mantiis are still level 1 with 5 SPP for the both of 'em, but I'll get 'em raised next tourney. Vortexx is kind of taking a headstart with those MVPs in the last few matches.

update18_076.jpg

Career stats, 18 matches in. They shouldn't surprise many but do have a few nice touches. Most everyone played 18 matches except Jim Cojones and Shuma (injuries) and obviously the new guys Ogg Jr, Mantiis and Silellak.

Biz leads easily in TDs scored and yards running, followed closely by Vortexx. Shuma also has a hefty yard-count to his name, and Shuma, kingcomrade and Ogg Jr all scored plenty of TDs.

Casualty-count is led by NiM, who's been leading quite a slaughter-fest the last two tourneys, and now has 12 total, following by Jim Cojones with 11 total, followed by the two veteran chaos warriors which in turn are surprisingly followed by the completely-combat-skillless Vortexx. Jim Cojones' 22 KO count is a nice feat. Perhaps most surprising is that after NiM and HanoverF, Mantiis has been the main tackle-machine on the team, in significantly fewer matches played.

What?

We're playing Lizardmen, Goblins and Wood Elves! And the other group in the competition consists of skaven, human, orc and dwarf teams!

How is that good news? That's EXACTLY who we played this tournament!

Yes, but this time, they're different teams.

FUCK YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOU!

Seriously, what the fuck is this for a shit? Not just is it refusing to give me stat-ups, but the game is in on some kind of conspiracy to make this LP even more boring by pitching me against the same teams over and over and over and over.

Urgh. Urge to continue...sinking...

Great game. I was a bit worried when I saw the other team, but you played very well, despite laying on your back most of the time. Having played as the Skavens for 9 games now...well, you get used to watching your players fall down a LOT.

Honestly, I'd rather see Lizardmen/Goblin/Elves again anyway, since so far we've only had one game of each.

I wonder how long til Codex Peer Pressure makes us play each other?

If you quit, you're going to have some unhappy Chaos folks knocking on your door saying "We would have words with thee..."

This is a great thread, and I'm enjoying it immensley.

Wot? You have only just begon!

It's definitely early in the tourney, but fairly far in an LP. Endless game, tho'...

And no worries guys, I wasn't planning on hanging up the hat. I will once again attempt to go for shorter updates, but we've seen how well my previous attempts at that turned out :?

(not a hero at brevity)
(I don't think I've ever written a review for GB shorter than 4 pages)

No shit. A tackle on a very tenacious ball-carrier, a tentacle-rape preventing a TD, and a block prevent a TD, all in back-to-back games. You make for a pretty good last man.
