Chapter 07: Ore no Imouto
I returned to the Bear's Pit and washed the beggar's clothes. Not too cleanly, I told myself. I want to make it somewhat authentic. I donned it after drying it, then I returned to the kitchen and gathered a handful of ashes from the kitchen's stove.
I smear it on my arms, legs, and into my hair. Eww! Okay, I look very dirty now! I waved away the unused ashes from my palms and walked up to Chella.
How do you like my disguise, Chella?
Hmm, let me see. Yes, I think that should actually work, Aisha. Let's go and test it!
She smiles and grabs me by the arm, leading me upstairs.
I caught this little rat stealing from the patrons. I figured I'd bring her to Master Nathan.
Don't be silly, Chella. You know that nobody goes inside unless they have an invitation.
Oh, but I'm sure Master Nathan would be delighted to see her.
The moment she tries to step through the door, she's dead. No second warning.
Chella grins widely and rubs the ash off my cheeks.
LP Comment: On the first preview I wrote it as 'rubs the ass off my cheeks' I LOL'ed.
Know her now?
Heheheh. Too funny, Chella...
The two guards laughed among themselves after realizing their mistake. The disguise was a success!
Well done, Aisha! *She smiles and hugs me.* I'll tell Master Nathan that you have passed this lesson!
I nodded and returned to my room to clean up the disguise.
After a nice, hot bath, I leaned back in the tub of warm water as I think of my next move. I recall all of my thieving experience as well as combat so far, and decided I was ready to advance my Rogue training to the next level.
I rose from my bath as my decision was made and began practicing with my thievery arts.
I felt...sharper.
As I looked at myself in the mirror, I felt more confident of dodging more attacks. Master Hatori's training paid off...I've killed my first man. Soon, Vico...Soon.
This is enough for now. I dozed off into bed after packing up my training materials.
The next morning...
I grabbed breakfast from the kitchen and met Caron as usual on the hallway.
I smiled at him.
You wearing anything underneath? *He smirks.*
Yes, I am.
Hehe, I don't believe you!
Could we change the subject, already?
He smiles.
Okay, so what's up?
I've finished one of my lessons!
He looks at me curiously.
Chella's lesson was about disguising. She made me play the role of a beggar.
A beggar? You?
He laughs.
Why's that funny?
He regards me for a couple of moments, then shrugs.
I don't know. It just seems odd to me. You're so graceful. And it's not just the way you move. It's also your speech. Pretty much everything about you, actually.
Oh...
You must think I'm a pretty big fool, huh? *Grins.* Guess I just like you. *Smiles.*
I try to ignore that comment. This is not the right time...I don't really want Caron to get involved. And if Vico hears this...
Well, anyway. In order to pass Chella's test, I had to fool Master Nathan's bodyguards upstairs.
Heh. They must be pretty blind. Guess we should be concerned for Master Nathan's safety. *He smirks.*
Right. You wouldn't be fooled that easily, of course.
I'd have recognized you.
Don't be so sure about that.
I am sure. It's your eyes. You can't disguise your eyes. *He smiles.*
Oh...
Well, I'd also recognize you by the size of your butt. *He grins.*
Caron!
He chuckles.
You know, for a moment I thought you were a really nice guy.
Well, sorry...*He clears his throat.* Anyway, got any other news?
Not right now.
Alright, but keep me updated.
Sure!
I waved him goodbye and set forth towards the marketplace. According to Master Nathan, Master Yance is the person I should seek out for pickpocketing lessons.
Greetings, are you Master Yance?
That I am, yes. And who wants to know?
I'm Tina. Master Nathan told me to look you up. He said you'd teach me something?
He studies me critically.
Hm. Teach you?
Well, yes.
You've got expertise with putting your fingers where they don't belong?
LP Comment: Well, she's got experience with someone putting something into her.
I have some basic knowledge of thievery...
Very well. Show me. I've got a ring in my pocket. Get it, and it's yours.
I smiled and get to work. I walked away a few steps from him and quietly approach. Finally, at arm's length, I dipped the tip of my fingers into his pocket in search of something metallic. Only for Master Yance to turn around with a disapproving stare.
He told me to try again, this time with better timing and closer range before I swoop in. This time, it went smoothly.
He did say it's mine, right? I slipped it into one of my fingers.
I've got it!
I showed him the ring on my finger.
Good. Keep it. The problem you'll face when you're sent on thieving mission is that most people won't be amused to catch you in the act. If you're caught, run away, hide behind a corner, and try again. Sometimes you may also have to steal from somebody who'd attack you on sight. So it's a good idea to learn how to be stealthy.
I nodded.
Okay. This is Timmy. *He puts a hand on a little boy next to him.* He works for the family, too. He's really good at pick pocketing.
Okay.
He just passed his final test. He has placed three rings on three different people in the city without their knowledge. A copper, a silver, and a steel one. Your task is to bring me these three rings.
Where do I find these people?
The first ring is on a dark skinned sailor at the harbor in South Betancuria. Careful. These guys are rough with pickpockets.
I know...
For the other two, check out...5 Castle Street in North Betancuria and 23 Knight's Street in Western Betancuria. Got it all?
I finished scribbling on my journal and nodded.
Good luck, then!
Later at 5 Castle Street...
That wasn't so hard. The front door was easily picked...and it's just a guard dog. Let's find that ring!
Oh dear, the door to the second floor has a very complex lock on it..I need to get the key. I eyed the bookcase across the room and tiptoed past the guard dog. As I got closer, I dipped my hand into the shelves, hoping to find a loose key in the middle of the books. When suddenly a loud, SNIKT! sound was heard.
I reeled back in shock as spikes cut the length of my arm. I gritted my teeth to suppress my scream. Careless, girl! I made a mental note to check for traps next time.
I made sure the trap no longer triggers and emptied the shelf. Three books and a key was all that I found. I guess I can read it later. The key fits the door to the second floor!
A simple lock on the chest of drawers was bypassed in the second floor and I snatched a lone ring inside. One down, two to go! I could leave immediately, but what's the fun in that? The house is practically empty! I ransack the other room and grabbed a red dress from a bare cupboard.
It'll do.
From a nearby desk, I plundered a ring with bluish-glow. I shouldn't wear these when I am sneaking around. Satisfied that I took everything that isn't nailed down, I left the house and said a prayer of thanks to the Almighty.
LP Comment: +5 Chaotic Alignment per looted containers.
Princess doesn't give a fuck.
The next place to find is in West Betancuria. I'm definitely saving the worst place, the harbor for last. Knight's Street...
Uh oh.
LP Comment:
Turn to the next page to initiate rape scene.
Hey there, little coo! What are you doing there?
He eyes me up and down, his gaze finally resting on my chest. I'm not used to this Dhorn's behavior. I thought their kind wouldn't think of such things. But every family always have a black sheep, huh?
I'm just going along the street...That's not forbidden, is it?
Normally, it's not. But in your case...
LP Comment: Fuck you asshole: It's not. So it's not.
A young woman, all by herself, and clad in these skimpy clothes. I must say that looks more than fishy.
But I'm just a poor kitchen girl, I don't have any money to buy better clothes.
That's what you say. But I can just see how my superiors might suspect that you are a prostitute looking for customers.
I am NOT a prostitute!
They all say that. I'm afraid I will have to arrest you. Unless...
He looks at my breasts. I weighed my options. I could try running, but he'd use that to prove my guilt and call on his comrades to arrest me. Attacking him in the open would lead to a similar outcome. I'll...I'll have to convince him to let me go somehow.
Please, can't you let me go?
Prostitution is a capital crime. They might even hang you for it.
But I told you, I'm no harlot!
I'll tell you what. How about you...convince me personally that nothing illegal was about to take place here?
LP Comment: Why don't you just invest more points in Intimidation already, you fail-as-fuck persuader?
And how would I do that?
Well, one of these houses is unoccupied, if we went there together, and you'd be nice to me, our patrols would certainly have no ground for reasoning that you are a prostitute doing it for the money.
I can argue with this guy all day, but I doubt he'll give way. I have to wait for my chance in a secluded spot. I spy his fully armored outfit and swallowed. He's not going to be easy.
Fine. Sure...whatever.
Come.
He puts an arm around my waist as we walked.
We'll be undisturbed here. Our troops have confiscated this house after its former owner, uhm, passed away. It will most likely be sold in a couple of weeks, but until then, it will do. So tell me, what's your name?
Tina.
Tina..That's pretty. *Smiles.*
I shift uncomfortably.
Well, how about you show me your tits now, Tina of Betancuria?
No..I..I don't want to do that.
Huh? Why do you think I brought you here? So we could talk about the goddamn rain?!
I gritted my teeth as he tightened the grip around his sword. I regretted not wearing my chain hauberk. I won't be able to change into it...I drew a deep breath as I make a reach for the morning star on my belt, when suddenly the door opens!
It's one of Master Nathan's guard! I think we can take him on now!
I'm the one who'll kick your ass all the way back to Dhorn if you don't keep your fingers off her.
LP Comment: ....probably the most sensible and bad ass line in the game so far.
The Dhorn turns towards me and frowned.
You know that bull?
I'm her brother, Dhorn.
The Dhorn turns back to face Master Nathan's bodyguard.
Her brother, huh?
LP Comment: Aisha, what does the power scouter say?
Well, okay.
Finally, the Dhorn seemed to back down and returns his gaze at me.
I usually spend my evenings at Tald's Tavern. Look me up when you've rid yourself of your brother. It's going to be worth your while.
He touches my shoulder briefly, then leaves the building.
Whew, I'm SO glad that you came by, Timo.
LP Comment: Rape Averted. I really don't know how or why the creator scripted this in...does she leave it to her players to choose whether the PC is to be raped or not raped? Is it a rail-roaded rescue? Or not?
You okay, Aisha?
that Dhorn said he'd arrest me..
He nods.
I saw you with him and figured you might be in trouble.
I'm really glad that you came by.
Wasn't by chance, Nathan told me to keep an eye on you. For the first couple of days, anyway.
You've been following me the last few days?
LP Comment: Well where were you when I was raped in the harbor, muscleman?
Yeah, though I've got to admit that I've lost you a couple of times.
LP Comment: Oh.
Want to go and see Nathan now? We should tell him of this.
I've got something else to do, first.
As you wish. But please be a bit more careful from now on, okay?
He left the warehouse and I continued to Knight's Street unopposed.
The door yielded to my picks. No guardians at the first floor. Smooth start.
I raided the kitchen for some loose bits and found a prized healing potion in one of the drawers.
The second floor is occupied by a lone man. I assumed he must be carrying the ring somewhere in his pocket. If not, it must be somewhere in this floor.
I searched the room next door and found a sole loose gem in the corner of a drawer.
I crept quietly to the man and dipped into his pocket.
Curses!
Ah!
I'm going to take you to the guard, bloody thief! That will teach you, stealing from hard-working people.
He glares at me. I better think of something fast!
(Bluff) Do as you must. The guards are going to let me go within the hour.
Hm...
He gives me an unsure look. I pressed my luck.
(Bluff) There are those people who force me to do this. They are going to beat me if they learn that you have caught me...
Oh, ouch. *He gives me a compassionate look.* Alright. I'll let you go.
I sighed in relief. Good think I have a sharp wit! Now I'll just have to come back later and...
But I want something in exchange, pretty thing.
He smirks and points towards his trousers. I gave him a puzzled look to buy some time.
You take my dick in your mouth, sweetie. You surely have done that before?
You've got to be joking.
I backed off from him and reached for my morning star...
Then I'm going to take you to the guard, stupid cunt! Make up your fucking mind already!
The only thing I'll make is you, BLOODY!
I swung my morning star at his face and retreated down the stairs as he dodged the strike.
He followed close behind as I put on my chain hauberk and equipped my wooden shield from my pack.
Where you going, pretty thing? Come!
He descended down the stairs with his palms open.
Yeah, COME TO MY BLOWS!
The strike hit him squarely on his chest, he clutches it in pain. We exchanged blow, and even though he is barehanded, I am ashamed to admit that he is getting the better of me. I attempted to call upon the Almighty's blessing, but his punches would disrupt my casting.
You're going down, bitch!
I reached to my pack and quaffed a potion.
Don't think so, thanks for the potion!
I need a second wind, I retreated upstairs.
As I arrived first to the top of the stairs, I awaited his arrival and timed my swing perfectly. Hitting him on his soft sides.
Bleed, you bastard!
He gurgled in reply as blood exited from his mouth. He attempts another swing with his bare-fist. It was too slow, the strength has left him. I dodged and gave him no mercy.
Coup de grace!
UNF!
With a loud twhack, his head collided with the wooden pillar, and the white of his eyes swallowed his pupils. Dead.
Another man slain!
I grabbed the ring from his pocket and helped myself to his purse. I took one last look at his body before looting everything else in his house.
Satisfied, I slammed the door behind me and smiled at the Betancurian rain that greeted my exit. It's a good day today!
