<strong>[ Preview ]</strong>
<p>The Wargamer is the next site to needlessly preview Midway's Rise & Fall: Civilizations At War. The preview is mostly positive, but it does have a caveat:</p><blockquote><p>Before I describe those features, it may be helpful to set expectations for Rise & Fall. This is not a hardcore strategy oriented brimming with the historical nitty-gritty, nor is it an Age of Empires clone all about base-building. Instead, Rise & Fall is more closely related to those newer action real-time strategy games; more like Act of War than Civilization. While set in a world of history, leaders actually separated by hundreds of years of time will square off in the game’s campaigns, recreating quasi-historical battles. The historical units and leaders are the limit to the game’s focus on history books, so I’ll call a spade a spade: this is a historically “lite” RTS.</p></blockquote><p>I'll put it simpler: Instead of spending $55 on Rise & Fall, buy Jedi Academy if you want an action game and Disciples II if you want a strategy game.
