<p><a href="http://www.massive.se/Index.asp?id=1" title="Massive">Massive Entertainment</a> was in a generous mood the other day so they let <a href="http://pc.ign.com/articles/727/727094p1.html" title="IGN">IGN</a>, <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/worldinconflict/news.html?page=1&sid=6156207&part=rss&tag=gs_pc&subj=6156207" title="Gamespot">Gamespot</a>, and <a href="http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/world-in-conflict/727636p1.html" title="Gamespy">Gamespy</a> all get their hands on <a href="http://www.worldinconflict.com/main/" title="WiC">World In Conflict's</a> multiplayer portion for some hot Cold War RTS action.</p><blockquote><p>After the regular skirmish, it was time to try out a new multiplayer mode: Assault. Similar to the Assault mode in first-person shooters such as Unreal Tournament, in the WiC version of Assault one team starts on offense and the other on defense, and they switch sides at the end of the round. The main objective is to make your way through a series of checkpoints faster than your opponents can. Unlike the skirmish mode where the checkpoints are spread across the map and can be taken at any time, the checkpoints in Assault mode have to be taken in order and are often in tight straight lines, making for extremely intense firefights as everyone playing is vying for the same point. </p></blockquote><p>Sounds groovy, unless you're like me and you (a) don't do MP and (b) don't have a computer hefty enough for WiC.
