Looks preety cool. I have clicked the video and thought that it is indeed presenting a gameplay of old good Freelancer. Cosmic monsters might be an interesting concept, but judging from the video those flying tentacles look a little rough at this stage.

Imagine if Microsoft wasn't retarded and would release a Freelancer HD on steam with workshop integration, instead of letting it rot in a forgotten corner.

This, fucking this. Can't even buy the game on gog. It's like they hate free money.

This is why I don't like MS gobbling up studios, they're going to become an IP black hole worse than EA is, with so much stuff gone beyond the event horizon, unable to escape.

I know that all the big names in the industry didn't care much for it at the time, but Freelancer is one of my favourite gaming memories.

The feeling of escaping a huge battle by the skin of my teeth and coming across the Freeport that was right on the fringes of space for the first time (the place where you could buy the Eagle) is imprinted on my brain :) Happy days!

The demo is available for download btw.

Just as a PSA you can d/l the game from the abandonware website, then if you install Freelancer HD from ModDB (1.8 gigs, ver. 0.6 atm) you're good to go for a patched high rez version that works in DX11 that's very close to vanilla, with identical (and still arcadey fun) gameplay.

Played its demo a bit and it is Freelancer alright. UI is a bit of a cancer, especially inventory part and it has some additions like dodge but I mostly liked it.
Only part really bothered me is the spaceporn part. Storms are nice but I'd like to see more space view. But I didn't play for long and this is still alpha, so

Codexer opinions on this? I would get it but the reviews say the controls are bad which is one of my pet peeves.

Controls were fine except when docking, my main problem with the game was its UI. Also kinda raw when I played it and very weak on space porn part. I guess it is an early access release(...) so lets just keep our eyes on it just now.
