REDWOOD CITY, Calif., March 22, 2004 – March 22, 2004 - Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), the world's leading interactive entertainment software company today announced a worldwide publishing agreement with celebrated game designer Chris Taylor of Gas Powered Games. The two companies have partnered to create a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game for the PC. The new title is slated for release in 2006. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“This is a huge opportunity for our company; to be working with the most successful and proven publisher of video games in the world", said Chris Taylor, President of Gas Powered Games. "We worked hard to find a publisher that shared our vision for this new title, and it's really no surprise that we partnered with EA. It was the unanimously smart decision for us, and we couldn't be happier about it.”

This agreement reinforces EA's commitment to nurturing independent game development studios and providing them with the tools, expertise, and distribution power needed to succeed in the global marketplace.

“At EA Partners we seek out energetic, creative development studios that are looking to take their project to the next level,” said John Riccitiello, President and Chief Operating Officer at Electronic Arts. “The folks at Gas Powered Games are an extraordinarily talented bunch with a proven ability to deliver top quality games. We are confident that this partnership will result in a blockbuster title that strikes a chord with gamers worldwide.”

Woo-hoo! I read somewhere else (IGN, I think) that this upcoming game is everything (and more) he wanted Total Annihilation 2 to be.

Isnt this news a lil old?

Anyway, it is a good deal for GPG, EA's a big name with the unwashed masses, it can get guaranteed floor and ad space in almost any games store, and it has a marketing department other companies dream of.

The only thing I would be leery of is EA forcing GPG to rush the game, but that may be a clause in the contract forbidding them to, for all we know.

That worries me, especially since EA didn't even bother to advertise AOX. They didn't rush that game though, at least, and the patches came out pretty quickly.

Surely finding out your publisher is EA is like finding out you're sharing a prison cell with a seven-foot cross-dressing rapist called Bubba? Hardly the time to pop the champagne.

Finding EA to be the publisher is definately bad.
The game is probably gonna suck anyway, I doubt that they can repeat their succes.
