Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
I want to read that first Dostoievsky novel, the one people always say was utter shit and marvel at how he could become so good later. Russian is kinda hard to properly translate.

But you could say that about every language, really. Translation and translating are interesting arts to me.

As an added benefit you'll be able to play Dungeon Cleaners, too ;).

Yes if only to learn how cringeworthy russian language can be.

SR2 can be a good idea though - just because I want to know how much fail/win the english translation has.

Russian language has one big thing going for it - obscene words are not as inflated in it as in English and actually sound obscene, so swearing is aggressive and written porn is hot.

Call me conservative but I'd rather learn Russian than cope with a terrible translation. It's not really because it's terrible; it's just that I can't play a game that has typos and grammar mistakes. Grinds my gears.

I always found that the translation was part of the charm. You knew what it was trying to say, but it's inability to do so properly gives it a unique indy/underdog flavor... mmm... underdog flavor

To run your game in Compatibility Mode:

1. Right-click the game's desktop shortcut icon and choose Properties.
2. In the Properties Panel, click the Compatibility tab.
3. Place a check in the Compatibility Mode checkbox.
4. Select Windows XP (Service Pack 2) in the mode box.
5. Click Apply to save your changes.

also:
Update your Starforce drivers. Starforce is the copy protection scheme used on Space Rangers 2, and the version that shipped with the game is incompatible with Vista.

http://www.star-force.com/
Support -> Remove/Update Driver

You'll download a file called "sfdrvup.zip" with a single executable in it that has the same name.
Extract the zip file somewhere, run the executable, tell Vista to let it do its thing. After a minute or two, the computer will prompt you to reboot. Everything should work from there.

Initially, if Starforce is giving you problems, you can right-click on the Space Rangers 2 icon and hit "Run as Administrator".

Trust this helps anyone who hasn't yet found the answer.

Or get rid of vista. Even MS aren't pretending it isn't a huge failure anymore. In any case, go give it (installing the game) another try.

Could the attempt to launch the game before updating the starforce drivers be causing an issue?

Could vista have racist feelings towards the chosen installation directory?

Will we ever see a Space Rangers 2 LP??

Also, I guess you're not using the Reboot expansion.

Amazon says 9,99 for the base game, 19,99 for reboot.
Get reboot if you can for the text quests, I guess - although those new hulls pretty much wreak havoc on the game's balance.

Also, here's another quote:

This is what I did. I am running Vista.

Uninstall.
Erased c:\program files\cinemaware marque.
Ran the starforce removal tool.
Autorun disc 1, choose install.
Leave all the defaults.
When it asked for disc 2, I popped out disc 1, put in disc 2 and waited until the autorun stuff finished. Then I closed the autorun stuff. Then I waited until the drive spun down. THEN I clicked OK.
Let the install finish.
Ran the game.
Starforce installed.
I rebooted.
Ran the Starforce Vista update (yuck, but I want to play the game.)
http://www.star-force.com/support/sfdrvup.zip
Rebooted.
Right clicked space rangers 2 icon in the start menu, set it up to run as admin.
Ran from the start menu icon.

It worked!

Pressing F9 should do the trick too (bmp or png possible).
