They improved some things in Thea 2 but others aren't as great.
The biggest thing I dislike about Thea 2 is the fact that the best resources aren't found in the world. You have to distill or refine lower-tier resources into higher-tiers, and it takes a LONG, LONG time. Then you've distilled 2x or 3x and then you try to craft the über sword of leetness and you get some junk weapon instead. Bummer. It makes the end game very boring, to be honest.
I'm not a big fan of the new card game, either - thought the original was simple enough to be useful. Most of the time I just "auto-complete" it anyways.
What I do like is the ability to put down your first town where you like - or even to avoid doing so altogether. The first could give you a good spot or a bad spot and you'd realistically have to restart until you got a good one. That's an improvement, in my book. I also like the sailing - that's pretty cool. Also like the buildings you can put down in town, and the rituals. These could have been fleshed out a bit more but they're not bad.
The last thing that is OK but that could be improved is the ability to get good pets, or level up existing pets. That would be cool.
