When I was a youngster, I used to dream of an RPG where I could stand in the middle of the living room and dodge and block and swing a pretend sword for combat.

When I was a teenager I used to dream about seeing Fallout in real-time first person 3D :M

i used to dream about Daggerfall.

It's a great things consoles taking this direction, if all the big developers start producing games for this kinect thing as well as those "social games" then perhaps we will be rid of the current generation of console shooter ports that plague the PC and actually see some decent games. Perhaps this is the death of the modern "popamole" three hour long shooter that we have all been waiting for?

Or perhaps I'm just to optimistic and this will lead to a new dark age making the current games produced seem like complex masterpieces in comparison.

I used to think the consoles getting more and more mainstream/win-button was going to lead to an awesome PC resurgence as indie devs and small teams start pumping out content for the "core" audience, but now... now I worry the PC will become all about facebook social wanking.

We still have a better shot of having real games ten years from now than they do though, I expect.

That is my hope as well.
