(Did it ever occur to you that some people might actually *enjoy* TB as it stands? Not because it "allows for better tactics than RT" or "is more realistic when you control 10 persons simultaneously" or whatever other shitty excuse of the "it sure sucks man, but the alternatives are even worse" kind, but because it is FUN?)

I agree with you TB is fun but what is fun is highly subjective, so it doesn't really lead to a discussion that goes anywhere, if the other person doesn't think TB is fun.

The most glaring lack of TB is its lack of dynamism, and that its temporal abstraction produces situations which look implausible - like shooting a guy when he is 2 meters away - in TB it usually looks like he is standing still and you should hit without problems, while in reality he's probably running and dodging at full speed.

However, it is all easily remedied by adding more additional animations to the system, adding interrupts, overwatch, opportunity fire etc.

Personally, I was a long time TB player. Real Time was mostly meh to me, as the only challenge came from fast clicking or learning hotkeys, which I seldom can be arsed to do - these should be a convenience, not a requirement.

But, in the recent years I grew more and more fond of Turn Based with Pause, but not necessarily in the way BG does thatm which is sorta like turn based with timed turns covered up by real time with pause. At first I really liked that in the recent UFO series (though I admit, it got enjoyable around Afterlight) and actually got totally won over in Brigade E5 (which is rather mediocre as a game, one has to learn to like it, yet the combat implementation is great.)
