<a target=_blank href=http://qbtk.hybd.net/>Qbasic.TK</a> has announced a roguelike development contest. Here are the rules:<ul>* make it a rogue like.
* it must be made in QB
* You can use any library you can find here, in the misc section.
* If you want to use another lib, you'll have to upload it first.
* The competition will end March 1.
* Extra time will be given if agreed by minimum 50% of the competitors.
* Use graphics if you like, but it's not a must, and it will not count as extra points.
</ul>
You can read more about the contest in <a target=_blank href=http://qbtk.hybd.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=171>this thread</a>.

Does it mean that someone is actually still using QBASIC?

Behind you.
It's rather amazing considering there's PureBASIC, DarkBASIC, BlitzBASIC, XBASIC, etc. out there that beat the crap out of QBASIC, and can do native windows apps. Most of those are cheap, free, etc.

I can't fathom the stuff that people are doing nowadays in QBasic or the reason for them doing it. It's like changing your socks by burning them off of your feet instead of removing them manually.

Greetings people. I found this topic during a google search ("qbasic roguelikes") and yes, I'm that "Jocke The Beast" that's refered to in the first post.

I just wanted to tell you all that qbasic is still alive. We're a not-so-big-community but the development of new and more advanced games goes forwards (even with a old basic language as Qbasic). Personally I pretty much suck at coding but there are some hardcore programmers that still uses Qb (perhaps most for the fun of it nowadays).
Wanna take a look at our little community? Why not check out some of the "biggest" qbasic sites today:

Have a good one!

Spazmo's right. That Gorilla game trumps most of the market's 'OMFG GOTY' crap in the store. I mean, when you hit the sun with the bananna, it freaks out. I've never seen another game that's able to recreate the joy I found from doing that.
