Petroglyph has revealed Grey Goo, a resource-harvesting, base-building, RTS, in a deliberate throwback to older RTS games that many of their staff created when they were part of Westwood.

I spend most of my time with Grey Goo's meat-and-potatoes faction, the Beta. They're an industrial alien race, with beefy builds and an extra set of small, nimble hands. Tactically speaking, they establish outposts across the map and fight with heavy armor and artillery.

Another, more futuristic race employs a different dynamic, connecting everything to a central hub. They have to play a Tetris-like expansion game of laying down conduit, planting new structures, and teleporting existing structures closer to the front line.

Nice!
Well, except the name. Sounds like a World Of Goo sequel.

I liked pretty much all games by Petroglyph, even if most of them where also (very) flawed.

I liked Empire at War and Universe at War, but haven't played them since. And I completely wrote Petroglyph off after everything else they made after that... but this, I'll have to check out. Name is kind of lame though.

Okay, now I get the idea.

Still sucks as a name, though, as I'm pretty sure most people won't get that. And not just me because I'm not a native speaker.

A meteor falls on Earth, carrying a crystalline compound... where have I heard this before? "Write what you know" I guess. Still, this might be worth checking out (I haven't played anything by Petroglyph until now).

Hi everyone! Thought I would pop in here to say hello as the community manager for Grey Goo. I was with Petroglyph for five years as the community manager there. Now I'm excited to show you this game by them!

Welcome, Berek. If you have any news or announcements, could you please post them in the Strategy Forum's Grey Goo thread? I'll be keeping an eye on this game.
