I'm a graphics whore of the first order (most of the time) so I probably wouldn't touch this though I approve of ressurecting the moldy old bones of these ancient games and adding extra magics, fresh coats of paint and new skin masks.

The FAQ says this is based on Elite 2: Frontier rather than the original Elite. The ability to visit planets and Newtonian-based physics would be a big differentiator.

Cool that they're still updating it, shit thing about these open source projects though is that they move at a snail's pace.
