Bioware seems dumb to me.

Why are they rewriting the whole game??

It would cost far less money to make incremental inprovements to NWN. In addition, they would keep the editor functionality, which, IMO is a major selling point.

The engine is too old. Any updates for the graphical improvement of the Aurora engine will probably require extremely large downloads and who knows what kind of complications would arise, causing conflicts with preexisting modifications and issues similar to when they released SOU. A new engine with a new game gives the company its much needed 'fresh' angle.

They don't need to keep compatibility with the previous version. They could start with the current codebase and add in the new graphics engine. Then sell it as NWN2.

Surely its easier to modify the old editor than to create a new one from scratch?

Also I think its a crime if you can't convert content, such as models, from the old system to the new system.

Yep, it's just a rumor. I mean it's totally unlikely that Bio would be making NWN 2: Less is more. :roll:

When Bioware acquires the Fallout license they will be making

NWN 2 a post nuclear adventure.

It will roxxx !!!

On the meantime lets play something else ...

i'm pretty sure quake 3 didn't do as well as it could have because the mods were not compatible. the community never recovered.

The Quake 1 mods weren't compatible with Quake 2 either, and even UT2003 mutators have to be ported over to the new UT2004. It's a rare game that takes its mods along for the sequel.

Next news post: We have confirmations! Trent secretly made NWN 2 at home while Georg Zoeller was working on BG3. Although Georg couldn't made any official comments, he told us to check out the article in one of the German magazines. :lol:

1. BioWare has said repeatedly that they felt constrained by the usability limits put in place on the toolset for the sake of 'ease of use' for inexperienced module creators.

2. BioWare has said repeatedly that they are not working on NWN 2 or any other expansion for NWN.

3. As of SoU, getting data across multiple modules is now part of NWN.

I take this to mean that their unannounced PC rpg using their own IP will likely be non-D&D fantasy and that they're still considering whether an end-user toolset fits into the vision of the product.

Personally, I expect this game to include some sort of editor but without any of the hand-holding included as part of the NWN Toolset. Regardless of whether mod-making is thought to be part of the product vision, it is likely now an expectation of any full-blown PC RPG they make.

So its no longer restricted to just character info? That makes it so there isn't a need to track things you did in a module via items (like tracking henchmen interaction via tokens).

That's correct, RP.

You can, apparently, store and retrieve various types of data in a campaign database using nwscript functions. This means that it no longer makes sense to store variables on objects in your module.

Another nice result of this is that it makes it easier (still not trivial, but easier) for you to design a module so that it can be modified during subsequent editing sessions without screwing up your saved game.
