Bit late to the party there.

Anyway

In any case, I actually bought this game. It sort of sucks. I am not going to write a critique, but suffice to say, everyone who is giving it high ratings must not have played the game it is trying to emulate - or must have forgotten that, with the exception of DKC 2, the gameplay was actually pretty neolithic and terrible.

This was kind of what I expected. It seemed to have the old DKC gameplay style, and while most people seem to think that's a good thing, I didn't like it; felt slow and clunky to me, and this doesn't look much different. It's a very pretty game, I might pirate it and see if it's worth playing, but it doesn't really seem worth buying.

On the other hand, though, I loved DK64.

Blasphemers!

Anyway, I'm just gonna go ahead and say this: it's the best DK game. And also the hardest; it basically assumes that you are experienced with the original three. And don't pull this "lol you must not have played the others very much." I played the shit out of those games when I was a kid, and did everything. And then in high school I played them again, forcing a friend to do coop with me. So I know those games inside and out. And the new DK is simply better. It's longer, has some new interesting mechanics involving the background this time, and for the first time the KONG letters actually gets you something besides an extra life. And did I mention the challenge? If anything the game was too hard.

:x

Oh, but seriously, from what little I remember, DK64 was terrible. And the original DK series had pretty solid gameplay - not up to par with Mario 3 or anything, but still good.
