A bunch of Mitsuda's works have been taken down over the past few years for some reason.

Don't forget that when youtube strikes down an account it takes all their uploads with them so it's not uncommon for wide swaths of stuff that were there for years to disappear overnight should some account acquire too many copystrikes/dmcas.

Why not just download the ost or something? They're not that big you know.

Yeah, but I was drunk and angry
why would you want to listen to the dogshit snes sound?
Because it's nice, why would you listen to some dogshit "rendition"?

Japanese audio companies are notoriously stingy about copyright, so OSTs get nuked off of Youtube every so often.
That sounds like a losing battle, except for pissing some people off every so often.

Square Enix contracts to a third-party copyright rent-a-cop company who seem to get paid a commission on each strike. Consequently very little of Squares stuff (old or new) stays on youtube very long.

This is the thing to do. Most of them are easily available in big packs on public trackers. You also get to listen without the haze that youtube uploaders add to try to avoid automated copyright strikes.

Beyond straight soundtrack releases the Final Symphony album that the LSO put out a few years ago is pretty good, and a decent record on it's own merits tbh.

Chrono Trigger Arranged Version: The Brink of Time is an album of acid jazz rearrangements of the music from Chrono Trigger, composed by Yasunori Mitsuda and arranged and performed by Hiroshi Hata, Hidenobu Ootsuki, and Gizaemon de Furuta. The Brink of Time came about because Mitsuda felt that acid jazz and its related genres were underrepresented in the Japanese market. It was the first album for which Mitsuda had to work with live recordings. Read more on Last.fm.
