Ok. Sorry for being a newbie and starting a new topic, but the ideas from my previous one inspired me to write it down as a new punch:

Survival game. Reaching your own limits (in clicking the mouse hahaha). Trying to get the most impossible mounain. Like William Whymper on Matternhorn. Trying the most ridiculous and crazy route to get to the top of k-2 as Jerzy Kukuczka in his "Polish Route" (not to mix with "Magic route").

Avelanges coming down, bad weather, lacking stamina, losing tracks, riots of your Sherpa helpers.

Strategy: Deploying your highest skilled mountanieers to reach the summit. Planning the route depending on the weather, skills and courage of your people.

Losing crew. Accidents and so on.

At the end: If bad luck - coming back to the camp with crippled legs.

Fuck. The ultimate survival game with RPG, FPS, RTS and whatever you can name.

Sounds cool, or?

This should be in RPG Design.

Good idea, but what would the gameplay consist of; holding the 'up' arrow to make your guy climb the route, and from time to time some dialogues with party members?

It would also need a lot of randomization of the route to make replaying possible. I think your idea would work well in a roguelike.

Anyway more of a strategy game than an RPG; not that genres or genre names matter though.

Now go create it!

edit: This idea is maybe also suitable for a short game. Scale a randomized mountain in 15-20 minutes, with random events happening, then get a score on how well you did. Then try again.

The problem whit game like that is producing good gameplay whithout doing tedious manual task, and enough interesting things to do. It would work good as text based quest (like those is SR for example).

Add random avalanche rolls. No matter how buffed your stats are, you die.

Your followers should be able to back stab you and sabotage your equipment.

Making diplomacy count, or face the wrath of underpaid servants on a suicide quest!

Long live the new flesh!
It could be kind of fun. Especially if there were accurate maps of the mountains. I picture it using dual joysticks like the old Crazy Climber game. (Perfectly implemented on x-bawks controller.) It should look like this when you're climbing and have EXACTLY the same music track. The kids would love it! And naturally the Codex would too.
