Celestial Heavens serves up another Heroes of Might & Magic V strategy guide, this time covering those wacky tree-hugging Elves. There's plenty of advice on the various Sylvan heroes, creatures, and skills.

Sadly, you cannot imbue Armageddon, as it doesn’t target specific creatures. Similarly, you cannot imbue Mass Slow, Mass Weakness and Mass Suffering. These spells affect ALL of the opponent's creatures. When you use Imbue Arrow, you can imbue only the spells that target a single stack or a limited area. Thus you can imbue Lightning or Meteor Shower, but not Mass Slow or Armageddon. You can imbue Mass Vulnerability and Mass Cleansing, as those affect only limited areas. Unfortunately, one of Rangers’ weakest points is they have a very low chance of being offered Dark Magic.

In other HoMM5 news, the game is starting to slip in the sales charts. The latest NPD chart has it at number 9, just barely ahead of Age of Empires III. Strangely enough, Cars: Radiator Springs Adventure is at number 2.

Read: Sylvan Strategy Guide

Also: NPD Sales Chart

It made sweet, sweet love to his brainhole.

Speaking of HoMM5, there's this Tweaker utility that gives you an easy way to edit your config file. It gives you extra options you don't see ingame, like disabling reflective water or flames to improve performance. People having trouble running the game might want to try turning off all the graphics thingies or just clicking the big 'Performance' button at the bottom.

Suprisingly, the game runs smooth as silk for me at Normal settinges even on my shitastic laptop. I must be one of the lucky ones.

I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying the game, at least the campaign. It's one of the few strategy games where I'm actually going through it rather than rushing to the scenario maps. I'm just wrapping up the Haven campaign and it was an enjoyable little tutorial but now I can't wait to really dive into the meat of the game and see what all the reviewers were whining about.

The 3D isn't that bad, though it does take away a certain bit of "charm" that the other games had. The combat is a boatload of fun, even if it is lacking in options (Does it open up as the game goes on?).

Like I said, I haven't got into the scenarios and different factions so I can't get into the nitty gritty of the units and chit yet, but I want to beat the campaign first or at least get the point where it's no longer interesting (most strategy games last about 3 missions) and then start my usual scenario-binge. I will make one note and that's cavaliers and paladins rape demon ass.

Still want my damn random map generator.

In a way, it depends on what skills you choose on level up because some give you new combat abilities and spells while others just give you stat bonuses (like 10% less melee damage etc). Also, the other factions are a lot more spellcastery than the Haven so your heroes will be much more active in the battles than in the first campaign. So yeah.

Actually, HOMMV is a pretty fun game if it works on your computer.
