Apparently Gearbox, the developers of such games as Half-Life: Opposing Force and Borderlands are in charge of developing Duke's newest game.
Will the game have an open world to explore? A gazillion of guns? Will Jon St. John still be Duke? Stay tuned for more Duke to come later this year (with even a promise of a demo coming out this year, maybe).

The gameplay video that leaked right after 3D Realms went under looked very cool. If Gearbox took that and finished it I'll be very happy. If they started their own game, I'm not sure what to think. Borderlands was fun so I think they could pull off a fun DNF but that depends on how much pressure Take 2 puts on them.

Duke Nukem Forever was developed on unreal engine 3 and as we could see, there was a lot of shit done. Gearbox knows unreal engine 3 very well, they made borderlands on it. Finishing duke for Gearbox shouldn't be a problem. I am absolutely sure that duke nukem forever will come out sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.

I read somewhere that this century old waiting was a marketing scheme by that dude Boussar (or what was his name?) to gain more public attention.

Still my favorite trailer was that in 2001/2002.

Actually Gearbox was developing Duke Begins.
No kidding. It would actually have been set in WW2 (Duke doesn't age). Actually it could have been great if both these game would have been released. Duke Begins would be something interesting because Duke vs Nazis = Epic WIN.

Too much wasted potential with Borderlands -- the fact Gearbox is doing it doesn't excite me.

Too bad that idea is probably scrapped.
There was an old article on gamespot about it and there are some info on interwebs remained.

Why do ppl want sequels to old classics? I say let them die with pride. Bring us great new games instead of rehashing old shit.

In this case it's not the sequel we want, it's the actual classic that we've been waiting for for 14 years or so. That's a LONG time you know. It's longer than we've been waiting for Grimoire!

I think...

Really?
It's more like 2% of idiots wanting a sequel to their beloved game in this day and age (which will of course rape the game), 2% of people are against a sequel to their beloved game in the age of dumbing down and 96% of mindless amoebas who, of course, never played the original (and never will cuz graphix is teh suck) but want a sequel because they are constantly being brainwashed by their favourite Retardo Magazine about how awsum the original was (in articles written by people who haven't played it too).

Gaming industry is a cesspool
