[ Game -> Interview ] - More info on Game: Civilization IV

A few days ago XFire, the source of annoying and retarded signatures, had a developer chat with <a href="http://www.firaxis.com>Firaxis - developers of Civilization 4.

Today they posted the chatlog and here's a snip:

[Civ IV] Barry Caudill: Question: [SWAT]Josh: Are the sounds an important part in Civ?

Answer: Sound and music are always highly underrated in the player experience.

[Civ IV] Steve Ogden: YES. Most people don't realize the value of sound. I worked with a tech chief for a bit who used to joke about the unimportance of sound: "That's why they're called VIDEO games..." Watch a movie with the sound down sometime. Play CIV IV without the sound sometime. It's a vital part of the experience

Haha. I never ever played with any sound on. I focus on the gameplay, loosars.

Civ IV] Soren Johnson: Question: {WPC}Alucard: Is combat any better in Civ 4? In the other Civs a Bowman could kill a tank, to me that is really unrealistic and stupid. I also felt that combat was to simplistic, is that improved at all?

I motherfucking hate when people bitch about that shit. Has Civilization ever been realistic? Oh noes, a spearman killed a tank, but thank goodness they have the ultra realism of the Great Wall being in Jewish England.

Half of the fun of Civilization is doing all this wacky and unrealistic playing around with history and one thing thats part of that is having knights going head-to-head with F16s.

I played the demo with the sound and from what I heard, the music was done quite well. Of course, if it was crappy I'd just turn it off which most reviewers seem incapable of doing. It's stupid to fault a game for having bad sound, just turn it off, nimrods and listen to Bob Dylan or something.

Let's have a dev chat with some developer. B)
That's a damned good idea. But who to chat with? We need someone cool, I doubt we could get Sid Meier unless we bust down his door and put a smoking .38 magnum to his head. It's worth a shot, no doubt.
Highway 61 Revisited syncs up quite well with Quake 3 for some reason.
I was thinking more along the lines of Blonde on Blonde.

If we sign our emails with Rex's name, we could probably get an exclusive interview with SupCom's Chris Taylor. B)

What shits me, is not the perception that a bowman should win against a tank, because it's just a game. Instead, it's the fact that every now and then I'll lose at 3:1 or 4:1 odds. I had a combat once where a unit with a modified attack rating of ~18 was beaten by a defender with 6. What was worse, was that it didn't take a fucking scratch.

We had a really nice Palace Screen. I was sorry to see that Palace Screen go. It fell victim to short schedule in a way. Pressure? What pressure? :)

That's a bit of a shame. While adding absolutely nothing to the game, I used to quite like developing my palace.
