The cards threw me off and I'm so stupid/high/lacking in an attention span that I couldn't really figure it out before getting bored.

I spent several hours on the demo, really enjoyed it, and plan on purchasing the full thing.

I'd recommend it from what I gathered thus far - it just may be the best game in this style since Chaos Overlords. But there's a caveat in the luck to skill ratio. Lucky streaks of initiative rolls are capable of turning games around in their early phase. Perhaps the turn limit is obstructing something from my view and such occasions only grant an early edge, but I know some players are wary of this type of design.

I don't think you'd be disappointed if you can overlook it, though.
