Are there any projects which improve the art style?

Talking about all the portraits here.

It just doesn't appeal to me. It looks like a dark fantasy version of Penny Arcade drawn by a Twitter they/them.

Do people here play with a mod that replaces the graphics with something that doesn't look like fanart?

Draw your own portraits!

There was this one furry eroge space RPG I played for the luls, which had selectable portraits of a few different artist's depictions, based on the description of the character provided by the writer. The name of the artist was displayed with the portrait. I always chose the artist that drew the character in a cute, somewhat chibi art-style. But not all artists did all characters, so you had to be satisfied with the selection you were given. It was very interesting, and I wish more games did it.

Maybe you can find portrait pack mods made by some online artists, or modders that know them and have enlisted their help. You probably should have checked a number of different mod-hosting websites before asking here. Which game in particular are you trying to change the portraits for?
