Akalabeth crashes!

So, I'm trying to play Akalabeth, the PC version. I've found one on some site which works just fine, only I heard that the version that came with Ultima Collection has a save feature so I went hunting for it and I found it.
However, I have a problem with this one... if I choose to create a new character and then enter the lucky number it crashes, but I can start the game by choosing "Journey Onwards". Still, the crash also happens very often and apparently random in dungeons so I can't play it. It says "Shutting down Allegro, Exiting due to signal SIGSEGV, Page fault at eip..." followed by a bunch of hexadecimals or some such.

HALP etc.

Edit: All this happens in DOSBox, obviously.

Edit2: Found the answer here: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.p ... 8132776912
Tried the one with WDOSX

Thank you and a pleasant day.

Could never get into Akalabeth but Ultima I onwards were awesome (obviously earlier installments have dated... oh and I didn't like Ultima II).
