Space Rogue, a Faster Than Light inspired space RTS has been announced. Unlike FTL, Space Rogue makes use of Golden Age science fiction aesthetics including space cars.

It also will be including ground battles as opposed to just space ones.

Lemme put it this way - FTL, together with Don't Starve, is the most entertaining games I've played in years. If this is just more of the same then shut up and take my money, that's what I think.

this could be interesting, nice javascript skills on the site. FTL was ok, but i got tired of it really fast, still a cool game, this could be interesting if they improve that formula and add their unique features.

Don't starve was grindy and boring. Restarting a game and having to do trivial foraging for what felt like hours wasn't fun.

Don't Starve was a great concept that went nowhere. They've done a ton of updates but I don't think any have actually made the game more interesting to play.

Have you tried modded Minecraft? Crash Landing modpack, for example?

That Commander Mod adds a ton of content, new mechanics and the possibility of endless mode with infinite progression and progressive loot a la TES:Oblivion. Would recommend, keeps the game fresh.

Wotsa point of endless mode, the best thing about FTL is that it's balanced pretty good and the flagship gives everything a nice structure (i.e. by balancing survival, efficiency, and getting your flagship buster kit together before your choices run out).

I'd really like more 45-minute-game tight roguelikes like that (which FTL really isn't quite, because it takes too long to play a game). Also FTL would benefit a lot from a timeskip mode where it moves forward in time instantly between decisions in the traditional roguelike style instead of you patiently waiting for your Flak II/Halberd combo to fire three times over a minute, which would make 2-minute filler battles take ten seconds. I think some of the basic FTLisms like fire or boarding would not work very well with instant time steps so it would have to be a toggle though.

Have you both played the game after the expansion in the spring of this year? See the problem with Don't Starve was that a shitton of people formed their opinion about the game from the EA when the game was indeed grindy, quite empty and a bit boring. Unfortunately many of them never came back. It's such a shame. Because it's absolutely not true that the addons and updates haven't made the game any more interesting. From my estimation the amount of content expanded like tenfold. And now the game is fantastic. It's really a great, great sandbox. Tough as nails too.

And btw since a certain update (or was it a mod?) you don't have to restart from scratch everytime, you can customize your prefered start in the options.

I tried Minecraft, without mods, with some mods and I really wanted to like it. I played with it for a few hours and I sort of get the attraction. It's probably the ultimate sandbox. But after that I never came back to it. I guess it's like with women. Sometimes you get what other guys see in certain birds but your own crotch remains asleep.

I get the feeling this game will focus more on the RTS part than the resource management part of FTL, but it looks ok.
