<a href="http://www.gamespy.com">GameSpy</a> has posted a <A href="http://www.gamespy.com/previews/february03/toeevil/">preview</a> of <i>Temple of Elemental Evil</i>, which is being made by <a href="http://www.troikagames.com">Troika</a> for those living under a log. Also, this <A href="http://www.gamespy.com/previews/february03/toeevil/">preview</a> has a few <a href="http://www.gamespy.com/previews/february03/toeevil/screenshots.shtml">screenshots</a> of the artwork for the game, but none of them appear to be gameplay shots.

<blockquote>Another deviation from the world of Baldur's Gate is that it is a lot easier to play evil characters in this game. "In Baldur's Gate, the more evil you became, the more you would be accosted by the Flaming Fist, making it practically impossible to do some things in the game," Cain said. "Here, playing an evil party will make some things easier, or allow you to bypass some difficult situations altogether. I really pity anyone who tries to write a walkthrough for this because there are just so many different ways to play the game."</blockquote>

Deviation from <i>Baldur's Gate</i> is rarely a bad thing.

Heh, you're welcome

Let's hope they'll pull it off. But for some reason I think they just might do it. Troika has some people that really earned their stars.
I just hope they'll take their time and won't rush....even if this will mean that we won'tl see the game for a long long time to come.

Tim and co have never disappointed me. Sweet mercy this game is sounding sweet. As far as the time thing as I understand it the engine has been done for a while and all dev time since January has been spent on ToEE the game, not the mechanics. With a release date this summer I for one have no doubt this game will frelling own. Multiple spell targets, digestion damage...this is sounding like the first real implementation of DnD on the computer.
oh yeah - and its turn based.
gimme, gimme, gimme

Man, he's been dropping by here too often. His Bioware bashing is getting more and more blatant with each interview.

*laughs* Too true. :) I think the interviewer at GameSpy asked a lot of questions comparing it to Baldur's Gate.

I suddenly feel like playing Arcanum, hmm.

Well, I started (re) playing Arcanum last week. I guess hanging out here and talking all kind of RPG talk does that to a person. Nothing, NOTHING beats the experience of starting the game, finding your first gun parts, and puting them together a-la the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

To me, Arcanum is great because of the Victorian elements. I love playing a high charisma/persuasion human in smoking jacket and top hat. You can have a total of three ogre followers in the game. I got them all, and I put them all in nice suits. (I only found two large smoking jackets and for the sake of uniformity I used nice suits)

It's great walking around with three well-dressed humongous bodyguards, wearing a smoking jacket. You can roleplay some wonderful things, and Tarant is heaven for such a character.

In the middle of the woods, who needs armor? Your ogres don't! They just bash anything that comes near them.

The game is great, and in this third replay (never finished my second run through the game) my character hasn't landed one single blow himself.

Anyway, it's things like that I love about Tim's games. I hope ToEE turns out well. I have a healthy bit of confidence in Tim and his team, though.

yeah Arcaum has its problems but give me a semi- implemented Tim Cain game over a perfectly implemented Baldur's Gate any day of the week.

You know, I bet Chad Moore was fidgetting all over the plae if he was near where the GameSpy moron was asking for comparasons with Baldur's Gate. He absolutely hates BG/BG2.

I was wondering how the Troika crew were with low poly work, having only seen pre-rendered sprites, but those look nice. Very nice.

how the fuck did BG manage to earn the spot in gaming history that every CRPG afterwards has to be compared to it? I mean damn, every preview/review I read nowadays references either BG or Diablo. Both were ok for what they were but neither were what I would call a good RPG or even knowing the zipcode of a good RPG.
