Sorry for being insistent, but does anyone have any advice on the above question? I'd really like to go out and buy the bike tomorrow so it'd be really useful if you could help me decide what to buy by then.

Mountain bikes can only be used on mountains, duh. Thin-wheeled city bikes save on CO2 because they have less rubber in there tires which means you don't burn as much rubber when you're braking.

Thanks Dark! The thing is, my city is on a mountain, I mean I'm not sure it is but there's many uphill and downhill bits and it's in a mountaineous area so I guess it must be on a mountain, so would a mountain bike work here or is it just for out-of-town mountains? I guess it's an ambiguity in the names, because mountain and city aren't exclusively disjunctive terms.
