  1. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

A man named Paul Cooper, who gave Dave his first job in the games industry as his assistant, was also friends with his family. He was in contact with Dave's younger brother who told him the sad news. I'm trying to learn more, but Dave's brother apparently somewhere with limited internet access...
  2. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

Well, the search is over. I just learned today that Dave died in 2008. :(
  3. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

Hey, guys. I'm sorry, I hadn't checked back here for a while. None of us have had any luck tracking down Dave. If you want to get in on the search, PLEASE feel free to hit me up on email (troels@pleimert.dk) or on Twitter (@torbenfrost). I'd be very interested in hearing from YaZoR :) Just FYI...
  4. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

An update in the search: I have been in contact with Richard Gallagher, an old colleague of Dave's (whom the character of Gallagher in Steel Sky is named after!). He provided two e-mail addresses that I tried, which sadly returned immediate failure messages. They were...
  5. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

Update in the search: I received word from Jai Redman, who last had contact with Dave Cummins back in 2004. They were apparently really good friends, but Dave moved house and never left a forwarding address, and thus contact was lost forever. A couple of interesting points: I seem to...
  6. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

You know, I still have no idea where I know you from, but I'm betting it's from the Space Quest/SpaceVenture circle. ;) So you also know that, even WHEN we know all sorts of personal details about people who are still very much alive and kicking -- i.e. Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe -- Wikipedia...
  7. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

That's not a bad idea, but I wonder how long an article like that would survive. I know practically nothing about his past life -- only his gaming credits -- and I have no verifiable sources for all the "dirt" I have. I fear an article like that would be axed by the editors in seconds flat.
  8. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

Very interesting. Just narrowing down what part of the world he's in would get us somewhere. How did you attempt to contact him, and how far into nowhere did you get? :)
  9. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

Well, he DID write a game about the Knight's Templar. Maybe ... nah. ;)
  10. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

I'll bet he doesn't even live there anymore. Maybe he's even changed his name. Maybe we could get someone who lives closeby in the U.K. to put up Wanted-posters. ;)
  11. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

Yes, I reached out to the guy from this site: http://simplebrokensword.free.fr/article02.html -- who seemed to have contact with Cummins back in 2000. That's still more than a decade ago, though. And he hasn't replied. ;)
  12. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

An update in the matter, for those of you still keeping up: I wrote to Charles Cecil yesterday after seeing this tweet: http://twitter.com/CharlesCecil/status/249904145870516224 -- and apologized for what was a knee-jerk reaction to something precious to me seemingly being exploited for...
  13. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

I wouldn't be comfortable doing that, since I don't want to paint an ugly picture of someone who hasn't had the chance to defend themselves. It'd be like spreading rumors in grade school that "the fat kid is also gay," and then it turns out his mom bought him the pink shorts and forced him to...
  14. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

Yes, I will. It was not my intention to lie about it. But that did teach me a valuable lesson about looking things up before hitting Post. Again, had this been an article or editorial, I would have been more prudent about fact checking. This was a case of me seeing red and firing off a...
  15. The search for Beneath a Steel Sky's creator, Dave Cummins (RIP)

Sorry, man. Early morning post -- not entirely awake when I wrote that. ;) Nice to (re-)meet you, Infinitron. I was a bit miffed that Revolution didn't get back in touch with me, but that was years and years ago. I have tried several different times. Maybe they lost his contact...
