Fallout Fallout is 20 years old today!

I love Fallout and had a blast on my first playthrough, but I can't enjoy replaying it at all. Am I alone in this? There are no real surprises left even after a single playthrough and there isn't much room for significantly different builds due to so many skills being bad and Big Guns/Energy...

Fallout Fallout is 20 years old today!

I forget how I found RPGCodex but it's this site that got me started on CRPGs, I didn't think I'd like it but I tried Fallout and absolutely loved it, then went on to Fallout 2 and Planescape Torment, the latter of which being my favourite game to this day. Sadly I haven't found anything that...

[NO LONGER MANTAINED] Fallout: New Vegas - Sigourn's Recommended Mods

Not a bad list but I don't really understand why you're okay with things that increase the fidelity of special effects, character models etc but not textures. I think they're at least worth including somewhere in there in case the person doesn't want to go with a more vanilla look. The game is...

Codex Review RPG Codex Review: Torment: Tides of Numenera

I agree with some of the points in the review but what I struggle to comprehend is how the reviewer could possibly hate this game so much when he liked Pillars of Eternity. Praising that generic, dull mess of a game and having the audacity to say that this game was poorly written and verbose...

So they'll do the final build today. Will we get this update posted to steam before the game officially releases? I've seen similar questions asked but not a concrete answer.

    Aod News Main Thread

Aren't most of the people interested in AoD in large part because of the choices and consequences and story and whatnot? That's what drew me in; the combat is just the icing on the cake that keeps me there. So a game that completely gets rid of anything that isn't combat alienates my kind...

    Aod News Main Thread

I must say, I really wish they had decided to go down the route of some kind of expansion instead of a dungeon crawler, but then I'm a massive storyfag. Not all DLC has to be a shitty cash grab; it's often done excellently (such as in Fallout New Vegas, Dark Souls etc).

Preview RPG Codex Re-Preview: The Age of Decadence

If I start a character in AoD, do you consider it a mistake to make a fighter who is also a smooth talker? Is that objectively suboptimal, at least currently?

Wasteland Hiver vs Vault Dweller & Wasteland 2 Cage Match Thread

Quite late to this post but Will you be saying that about Wasteland 2 in a few years? Merely 'not bad'? You were gushing over DA:O a few years ago, weren't you? And I agreed with you. Good game. Shame about the nightmarish amount of filler combat though.

Game News Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter Update #57: Shadowrun Has Returned

PST was pretty linear and had awful combat, so I'm not sure that alone is enough to turn it into a "very weak and forgettable RPG."

Game News Brian Fargo on moral dilemmas in Wasteland 2

Have you never had a challenging encounter in an RPG then VD? Or are you just saying not after a certain point, like, towards the end? I certainly have, not so much in Fallout 1/2 (though some of the random encounters were extremely hard, guys in power armour with miniguns one-shotting you when...

Review Mass Effect 3: A Narratological Review

Decent review. Tries too hard to portray the game in a negative light however, and you don't even have to look passed the first few paragraphs to notice several mistakes: Except it wasn't anywhere even close to the combined might of the galaxy. It wasn't even the combined Citadel forces...
