  1. SaGa Series Discussion

Alright then maybe I need to adjust my mindset before playing one of these then hah!
  2. NSFW Best Thread Ever [No SJW-related posts allowed]

No AAA title is ever worth buying at launch because they will inevitably disappoint
  3. SaGa Series Discussion

What's the best game to get familiar with the series and the mechanics? I bought Scarlet Grace first and got absolutely destroyed; have since been looking at Minstrel Song and Frontier as I've read in various places those two are good jumping in points
  4. The Codex of Roguelikes

I've got 5 (Dice) and 6 both, put some hours into 5 but dropped it because the story dungeons kind of drug on (though from what I've read there is are a ton of side-dungeons that are more traditional roguelike style rather than having to babysit a companion through the Towers
  5. The Codex of Roguelikes

If you've played 5, how do you think it compares? If I only played one which one should I go with?

  7. The Digital Antiquarian on Final Fantasy VII and the JRPG genre

How are you going to be a grown-ass man and use the word 'squicky'
  8. The Digital Antiquarian on Final Fantasy VII and the JRPG genre

I think you're right and I'll note that most of what I've read from him is on the older text adventures which I'm guessing he grew up with, because those seemed to have less editorializing. What you've pointed out is unfortunately a way too common theme from a lot of contemporary writers...
  9. The Digital Antiquarian on Final Fantasy VII and the JRPG genre

Agreed, that review was incredibly disappointing; his articles are generally very interesting but that was just shamefully bad. In one of the comments he noted it took him six months to get through the game, maybe that should've been a hint that it's not for you and to leave it the fuck alone
  10. Random thoughts on whatever JRPG you're currently playing?

Currently playing Demon Gaze and EarthBound Beginnings on my Switch. DG is interesting because instead of building a full party, you only start with the MC and have to pay an increasing amount of gold for future party members. Just kicked this one off but it's scratching the DRPG itch nicely...

Ah, I was close! And agreed, it was my first MMO and I loved it; instanced missions were a game-changer. Being able to play with just a few friends or a team of henchmen is incredible

Goddamn, this brings back so many memories! Haven't played in over 10 years but these still bring a tear to me eye (the latest set of screens are from around Droknar's Forge right?)
  13. Random thoughts on whatever JRPG you're currently playing?

As someone playing for the first time, I agree to keep spoilers to a minimum! Except for one of the boss battles I've gone in completely blind and it's been great (I'm about 20 hours in so probably nowhere close to finishing)! Something I will share, keeping spoilers to a minimum - if you run...
  14. Baldur's Gate The Baldur's Gate Series Thread

Your speakers emit a screeching noise until you find a gay BIPOC and prostrate yourselves before them for being a white fucking scum
  15. Random thoughts on whatever JRPG you're currently playing?

I’ve got V in the backlog as well so it’ll be interesting to compare and contrast the two EDIT: I’m a newbie to the series so I’m definitely playing on Normal for now hah. I am glad to hear the bosses are more puzzle-like because I’m not the biggest fan of just having to grind up bigger numbers...
