what difficulty do you play on? I went straight to impossible since impossible meant piss easy in warlock 1, but this doesnt seem super easy at first glance.

Last time I played the second highest diff. This time around difficulties are more akin to Civ5 - you can't do Deity in Civ5 unless you've played a couple of games and got proper feel for the mechanics and tempo. Jumped into Impossible too after downloading the RM but got my ass whooped. I haven't played that many games to be confident on Imp., 3 or 4, not enough time.

Dude, since you apparently love to cross the 't's...
You might want to remember that you're posting in the wrong thread.
Yes, I misread your post.
Now you can go talk about that other game in its specific thread, or make one of your own.

Deal?
Good god.

I have played Planar Conquest until turn 100 or something. My random impressions:
-overall the game experience is better then WoM, it's more polished product, more consistent
-less bugs than in any version of the WoM. Hoverer some of the old bugs still exists (i.e. horribly small font of some descriptions or battle sounds/effects out of sync)
-some new bugs appeared which is not surprising. Most of them are cosmetic, I haven't experienced any gamebreaking bug
-visuals: game is faster in terms of performance, more coherent and much more 'touch-screen suitable' which is bad. Combat looks and sounds like shit.
-UI has changed, buttons are bigger and nicer but more childish and too colourful. Controlling your units is still pain in the ass. Combat camera is the worst ever.
-AI got some boost, at turn 90 the other lord had declared war on me. And he almost won.
-gameplay is still bit bland and uninteresting. There isn't much that is forcing the player to try another turn, exploration takes ages and the map is irrationally randomised
-lack of tutorial, some of the tool-tips are missing,
- there is no gameworld lore to be experienced in the gameplay

Don't know if I am ever going to play this game again, got if for free, maybe after some patches or expansions I will give it a try.

I've played some too, still too little for a meaningful review.
So, quick and brutal impressions
  • Much better than WoM (obviously)
  • Somewhat simplistic graphics but it's ok for me
  • UI is generally understandable and informative
  • No crashes nor major bugs, a couple of quirks yes, anyway they just released a hotfix for a few issues
  • AI will hit you with Stacks of Doom (of dubious origin)
  • Controlling units *IS* a pain in the ass... until you get how this thing reasons, at least. You have to UNSELECT the unit after you've issued a command. HOLY SHIT you have to always unselect all the time you hear me, then you're good to go and you'll understand how this thing "thinks" and acts. But it IS a pain in the ass getting there did I say that?
  • Admittedly, the last point might be annoying. But I'm getting the hang of it.
  • You need patience here. You won't probably be able to assault lairs early on, you might have to deal with early rushes of enemies, and you have to learn how to correctly control your units before all this anyway. I'm feeling like it's worth the hassle, but mileage will certainly vary.

One thing's for sure, it IS the closest thing to MoM, options and combinations are endless, lots of spells, heroes are cool, there's crafting, alchemy, true magical effects like flying and invisibility, then there's monsters like werewolves and vampires, there's Spell Power to be divided between Research, Mana and Spell Skill, multiturn casting.... everything seems to be there.

Yes, though it was some time ago.
This feels a lot closer to the "original" to me. The mechanics are basically the same.

This is much closer to MoM that AoW, which is good and bad.
Yesterday's hotfix is much more than hotfix, some new features were added.
I've read that in the future type of selecting units will be changed.
EDIT: Did you managed to get any heroes? I was unable to do that in PC, in WoM they were plenty of them quite early.

I got one from an Event or Fame (don't remember), and I hired another one from an Inn.
You could also summon one via spell, and I believe there's a trait to start with one too.

I have 3 Inns nearby in my current game... just have a magic spirit check them out regularly, the available "items" will change every few turns.
As I said it doesn't seem easy to take on lairs early on, so this means even fame will remain low for a while.

Played again for an hour, this game is actually pretty good (at least the beginning, I can bet that the end game is chaotic and messy).
It's funny how dozens of small changes addictions can change the gameplay completely. WoM was like fapping to a tranny porn - big expectations but after you're done you feel sick and ashamed. With Planar Conquest is the opposite, like a tranny fapping to a porn with you - might be amusing but only a few can really enjoy it in the long term.

If you set a toggle do mechanics build roads whenever they step on a road less tile? If you click a high up building will all prerequisites be queued?
