Seeing a TES Sandbox UO type MMO would be really interesting.
But sadly, that will not happen. Nobody makes sandbox MMOs anymore, everyone just wants to copy WoW, as already stated.

I don't understand this. Darkfall, while being a pathetic piece of shit, has a modest base of players who realize its complete shit and are STILL subscribed because it's the only mmo in the vein of UO on the market. It also has tons of people who are waiting for a better version of the game to subscribe to.

TES games to me have always had a UO-feel to them. People don't buy TES games for their reputation for compelling stories and jaw-dropping combat, they buy them either for the 'kill any annoying bastard i see, do whatever i wanna do' elements, the graphics (which obviously won't be there because this is an mmo), or because IGN tells them to. This falls PERFECTLY into an MMO of this category.

How long is it going to take to realize that cloning WoW isn't the way to win over its playerbase? WoW's been out for 8(?) years and has been improving ever since, that's 10+ years of development from a huge, wealthy company. There's no way anybody can create an MMO in 3 years that will clone WoW and top it. TES' reputation plus an MMO in vein of UO is a recipe for success.

Shiet, I don't think the humanity is ready for testanic. TOR just used up all titanic jokes. This is too soon!
TORtanic has been done. All aboooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaard the TEStonia.

What makes this even more hilarious is that it's going to be using the same engine as TOR. And this, which might turn out to be true.
What we heard: In 2007, Bethesda Softworks parent company Zenimax Media formed Zenimax Online, a massively multiplayer online gaming arm headed by Mythic Entertainment cofounder Matt Frior. At the time, Zenimax was hush-hush on what the branch, which was given access to some $300 million in funding, was at work on. However speculative eyes soon turned toward an MMORPG devoted to Bethesda's celebrated Elder Scrolls fantasy franchise, after Zenimax registered the URL elderscrollsonline.com

History is repeating itself, get the lifeboats ready.

After this, they will go for Fallout Online.

Watch.

Very doubtful. Just like we probably wont see another MMO with the Bioware brand on it I very much doubt that a TES MMO will be successful enough for Bethesda to do it again. Investors tend to get upset with projects that cost hundreds of millions and barely break even (if that). I just don't see Bethesda being able to produce the game that will actually dethrone WoW.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
And upset investors are really, really bad news. People with a lot of money can be very vicious about keeping it.

I don't understand: how is an MMO ES going to differ all that much from a SP ES game? Apart from having the place filled with 'humin playas' the actual structure, quests, locations are tailor made for a MMO already.

Regardless I welcome this move: Bioware and Bethesda going head to head with their MMO's, tearing strips off each other, pouring ever more funds into these decrepit products in a desperate bid to stay ahead until one or both of them die. Whoever loses, we still win.

Divinity: Original Sin Wasteland 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I hope it fails because if not, brace yourselves for Fallout: A Post Apocalyptic Multiplayer Game.
That interplay one was canned, right? I remember signing up for their mailing list and I never got any e-mails from them. They probably sold the address list to some viagra spambot company.

Yep, IIRC Zenimax sued Interplay but they settled out of court, Interplay getting around 2 million potatoes.

Very sad news. I can't see them making a TES VI now, since it'll obviously compete with the MMO. I reckon Bethesda Game Studios will turn their attention to destroying the Fallout franchise and leave Elder Scrolls to Zenimax Online.
Unlikely. The whole tower and stone lore still has to play out. It's been building up since the first game.

It'll be more broken and buggy.
It also will (very likely) not have mod support, because it's an MMO.

I don't think ZeniMax realizes how much Bethesda games rely on mod support for their huge mouthbreathing PC following to play them. And without the mouthbreathing following who play on consoles being able to play the game because they don't have a good enough PC...

Also, this. Best case scenario both of them fight it out and die thanks to Blizzard and WoW still existing.

Tower and stone?
There are "towers" holding reality up, each of these towers have a "stone" associated with it that powers said tower. In every TES game one of these stones have been destroyed. There's actually speculation on where exactly in Skyrim this happened.

Interesting, never heard that before. I assume in Morrowind it was the Tribunal, in Oblivion (sigh) it was the Amulet of Kings? Skyrim, it was probably Alduin.
