Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Hey guys, do you remember all the drama about Magna Mundi, the mod that became a full game developed by modders and funded by Paradox?

Yeah, you'll be getting a LOT more of that kind of drama. This always happens when modders start making mods for money, because modders are crazy.
I know they were making a game, but what was the drama about exactly?
And yes, I'm totally looking forward to the drama and online breakdowns.

Delays, delay, and more delays, until Paradox demanded a playable version that could be released, which they didn't deliver at all. Ubik, the mod leader, always bragged about how awesome his shit was and became completely delusional, claiming Paradox shut him down or something, rather than cancelling obvious vapourware that recieved many chances to prove itself. There was even some real llife drama later with him being declared insane by his family or something.

I have a feeling Bethesda spun a wicked tale to Valve of how this is such a good idea. Valve thought to themselves "Yeah, I agree" with great naivety.

Nearly ten years later, Bethesda becomes more and more of the devil. Nine years ago, they proved themselves the great deceiver and betrayer. Now the great tempter. When will this end?

Say what you will about Bethesda (and there's plenty of reason to do so, no doubt about it), I still find they deserve great praise for having "open" games (in the sense of "open to modding") and even delivering tools to do so.

As for this whole affair ... I feel ultimately, there's one aspect that makes both capitalism and socialism fail in the long run: men. We are greedy assholes, and that's not easy to overcome.
But I don't want to turn this into an ethical discussion, the point is: This idea strongly relies on everyone "behaving well", a circumstance under which it'd be potentially great as a tool to give modders a little something for their efforts. But things aren't as simple in the real world, not even in the world of a game's modding scene - why nobody at Valve realized this is puzzling to say the least.

The review of that Underground city den was even worse.
Even sloppier than this armor, somehow.

The immense knives slicing through your flesh are symbolic of Gaben taking huge cuts off your product. The bloody-red nose is symbolic of the public's reaction. And sometimes a door is just a door.

No inventory models, really?

Scroll further down. The Dota2 weapons were lifted straight from the game's files and don't even fit in a Skyrim character's hands. :M

pile of shit and lots of defenders of a Status Quo that they don't understand.

1) I made games but also mods, some were quite successful, no no fury armor number ten, i mean real mods.

2) Why i made mods? To get my self some credit in a community of manboons? No, i really liked those games and i tried to make them better for myself. After i had something solid i shared with the community so they can enjoy it too. Sometimes i even used scripts and assets from other modders and of course with their permission and credits mention.

3) This, at least many years ago helped me to get a job industry and learn more, and eventually become a decent developer (more or less :)) ).

4) I thought sometimes that if i did something really awesome and invested money i could ask for donations, but i prefered to make games not mods to earn money and of course make more games with it.

The thing is, that these asshole so called modders, are wannabe developers that don't want to do anything from zero or develop a real game. They just do a few tweaks or develop a few features and they want to earn money on somebody else games, because they added an UI, dildo manboon, or god knows what, even if is helpful, see Skyrimjobs. They are brainwashed capitalist wannabes that want to monetize anything their small brains produces so they can also be the next Notch and buy a shitty house in LA. Some of the mods i've seen for MB Warband were fucking amazing, and they were made for free with passion to improve a game they loved and also shared with the community. Skyrim shit can go to hell.

Some examples of mods i made...

http://www.moddb.com/mods/warband-enhanced
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrIqfl7pplU (voice over mod for Star Wolves 1)
http://www.moddb.com/mods/empire-total-war-wallachia-tara-romaneasca (small mod to introduce a new faction in Empire)

also i had lots fun modding Morrowind in 2004. Made a ring that could transport back to your mansion and memorize from where you teleport so you can go back(some kind of decline now that i think at it, thinking of teleports everywhere in Skyrim lol). Along with Manequins and cases from another mod that changed too much, i added in the house to showcase my lootz, to myself lol.

and so on...

I never thought about charging for money ffs, involving money in this will delude the quality, as for my games i would give them for free, if i could survive from other sources...Who knows, maybe in the future i will be able to make a good game which i can give it for free, not monetize my mom, dog and what not. That would be cool, will see...

Steam its loosing it relevancy to real gamers lately and slowly to small developers too, due to saturation of shitty mobile ports that bury you and of course humble bundles... In a few years, it probably wont matter as much as it did in the past. Hopefully others will take the lead for a while.

In the end it doesn't matter, it just fracking stupid to see this praised, that's what triggers me.

If you let this slide by saying who gives a fuck, it's just skyrim; most other developers will start doing the same shit.
They will sell DLC under disguise of mods and take 70% by outsourcing the 3rd party they pretend to care so much about.
Until one day <your favorite publisher> starts selling each npc separately.
They will say something like: 'It's just business' and kickstart an empty void which you can fill with cash.
You could argue that each empty void is the same, but the npc counter on your online profile will convince you otherwise.
I had this dark vision this morning while shuffling some bones and various animal corpses.

Killing Floor 2 owes itself to the monetization of the first game, and Rising Storm owes itself to the monetization of the first Red Orchestra. I see no difference in this being done through a company or through a 'pay for the mod' scheme - it's essentially the same end goal: paying for a better product. What bothers me is that gamers are so adverse to either notion that if a modder goes through a company he's a sellout and if he goes through what is now the Steam channel then he's a crook. This suggests to me that fundamentally people just don't want to pay for things - not exactly a shocking deduction.

I'm all for mods turning commercial like those games did. Those mods become stand alone products that have accountable developers behind them and their products won't suddenly stop working because their host game updated. They really aren't comparable to what Valve is doing here and I don't think their success or value is any indicator of how this steam workshop free for all is going to turn out.

I don't see how Bethesda and Valve are at fault here. They are just allowing modders to be total Jews, that's all. Blame them, not Valve. It's not like it's something new to release a mod by a big company. ID charged money for some community Doom maps ages ago.

Eh, Valve takes a 75% cut...

It's actually split between Valve and Bethesda, also it was around 66% IIRC. And why wouldn't they take the cut? They are using someone else's assets to create and promote their content and sell them through Steam. I'd understand the outrage if Valve just came to the Workshop, selected some mods and started selling them without asking anyone for permission but moders are free to just not sell it on Steam. It's not like that situation with Youtube, where everyone was suddenly forced to play by publisher's rules.
