How does this game fare on the Codex? It was released on the PS2 back in 2000 and has been available on Playstation Network for a while.

The setting was that of an alternate historical piece set in WW2 where, after the defeat of Nazi Germany, Japan had not been nuked and instead was occupied by both Mother Russia and Kwa. In came the Cold War, and with it the mass production of giant gundam-style mechs; it wasn't long before an all out conflict engulfed the land of the rising sun in flames.

The progression, story, strategic interface and combat were all somewhat low-key, but they would blend together to make one extremely satisfying dish.

Ever since I've been looking for a spiritual successor or, at the very least, a game set in the same vein. Valkyria Chronicles came close but died a similar death since good games can't ever seem to get good sequels. :argh:

I don't think there are other games like these, shame. There's Front Mission, but it's not exactly the same thing.

Codename STEAM is a steampunk-style Valkyria Chronicles clone, but instead of limited real-time segments, it uses action points and actual turns and such.
