hmmm I would say that a good idea is to focus on one of the 3 classic builds: the tank, the scout or the mage.
While it is possible to complete the game with a jack of all trades it will be harder than with a specialist.

Tank > focus on Combat/Str/Con

Scout > focus on Stealth/Combat

Mage > focus on Mysticism/Con

The Mage is the easiest way to play the game. The Tank is medium difficulty and the Scout is harder.
Just remember to turn the music off because it is fucking awful.
Also check the faq at gamefaqs.com, there is a really good guide there.

One of few games that I loved to played as pure warrior. Chardoll is just so. fucking. brilliant. Feels good putting all those different pieces and layers of clothing and armour on you.

Say, did you get any problems running the game? Do you play on Windows? I remember I had some kind of problems when tried to run it a couple years ago.

I played it on Windows XP, had no problems to run it. And indeed, the chardoll is truly brilliant. I wish more games did something similar.

Too bad I didn't see that patch before I recently replayed the game and got a game-breaking bug (chapter 3, attackers from north not spawning).

Btw Stealth in this game is horribly broken. Anything below 97 or something and it does not really work, but once you hit 100 (50 + shadow spell) you can attack enemies with melee and they won't even hit back. Use a bow and you can 1-shot most enemies, even if you don't they'll just stand there. Then there are enemies that will detect you no matter what.

By chapter 3 or so you'll have enough points for a jack-of-all. The combat sucks. Writing is so-so (back then anyway, brilliant by today's standards). I thought the music was alright. Equipment screen is great as mentioned.

I had problem running it on windows 8.1 but found solution. Change in properties of the DT1main.exe into 16bit. Also in siege.ini change Windowed=false into Windowed=true. Without those changes game was running extremly slow.

What's combat in this game like? Diablo style hack and slash? RTWP? TB?

What's combat in this game like?

RTWP, hectic, cumbersome and wildly unbalanced. Had it been better, i would have finished this relatively charming game. As is, it's really just a chore...

The game has a pause function but you can't give any actual orders when it is on. So the rest of your party of at most 3 is AI-controlled. However, you can switch to a character other than your main char at any time.

The combat isn't very tactical. It comes down to dealing as much damage as possible. As far as I remember, the only significant debuff spell is paralyze.

Man.. that game. Where your character was a walking wardrobe because of how much different shit you can wear at the same time.

This game had tons of potential, with interesting things like shapeshifting spells, but the combat and the inherent system was so broken, and the game unfun because of it, I never got the motivation to play it past the first hour or so.

Does anybody remember late chapters? Will I ever need crowns?

Running back and forth between merchants and front lines to sell loot is such a time sink. Even if you only loot small or relatively expensive stuff.

Don't do that : you get enough gold by selling only the expensive stuff.
Besides this game doesn't really deserve any extra time put into it.

I am playing now. I like very much the layered armor inventory.
Healing rate value seems bugged, I get from 6 hp/min to 86 hp/hour, then some npc give me healing rate training and I get 4 hp/min without amy explanation also for no reason nobody hurt me despite having only 3 as damage reduction.
And I also get slowing when fighting archers for both me and enemies.
