Yet Another Dungeon Master Clone, this one is Entombed 3D. Like the others, this one is fully 3D and has some of the more fancy graphics features like bumpmapping and water effects.

Nice water, which you can't see from the tumbnails. It's nice though. Trust me. Or just go to the site and see for yourself.

I know that dungeon crawler and first-person perspective should fit hand in glove (greater immersion and all that shit,) but I just don't get it. If all you have is combat (and graphics) then those mechanics need to be really slick. First person melee combat has never been any good, doubly so in a party based game.

Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder were nice for their simplicity, really. Considering Dungeon Master came out in 1987, it's a pretty decent title that a lot of people remember fondly. The combat in Dungeon Master wasn't that great, considering it basically revolved around watching buttons light up and then clicking on them when they did, but I know I burned many hours playing the original.

Welcome to www.entombed.co.uk

I am attempting to write a 'classic' dungeon master style RPG using Direct X9. I am not a game developer, so please dont take the piss. This project started on 20 Feb 2004
Based on that, I'd say he's making the project on alone.
He's got huge task ahead if he's going for a polished game which lasts more than few minutes.
I'll wait awhile before start throwing rocks at it, because there's no sure if unfinanced projects ever get made.

Seriously, the game looks neat. Walls are a bit straight though. Want some crookedness and stuff in there.

So umm... yeah.

Can we play it?

Wizardry and Might&Magic series - two great examples for this genre.
I recently tried Eye of Beholder , but the fight is real-time unfortunately.

Eye of the Beholder was a Dungeon Master clone with AD&D instead of the Dungeon Master system, which was a little shallow(if you've played Dungeon Siege, then you should know the Dungeon Master system because they're pretty much the same thing). So yeah, the combat would be in real time.

If you'd like to play Eye of the Beholder with turn based combat and 3E rules, then you should check out the GameBoy Advance version of the game, because it switches to isometric turn based combat when you encounter monsters.

THE GAME IS ON OLD STYLE 'RETRO' DUNGEON CRAWLER, NOT A FIRST PERSON STYLE GAME. Just dont want you guys trying it expecting something it isnt.

its only an alpha demo at the moment. but there are 3 levels and a load of stuff to try. I have developed the entire game on my own (apart from the PhysX wrapper), only using a couple of people for artwork where needed.

Thanks.

PhysX, huh? Have you been bitten by the constantly changing APIs? Seems like every time they come out with a new SDK I have to rewrite parts of the physics layer. Especially with the pseudo-DirectX approach they're pushing now with "redistributable drivers" instead of an easy-to-copy DLL.

"first-person perspective should fit hand in glove (greater immersion and all that shit,"

No. 1st person view is the least immersive view. Period.

The guy who writes the PhysX wrapper has stopped at 2.5.1 which has more than enough features for me and my game ... I agree about the API and drivers though, they are a pain.

I dont understand your post sorry. Is there a clone called demise, or are you telling anyone who writes a clone of dungeon master to not bother ?

Or is afterfall.pl what you want me to look at ?

Help !

Demise: Rise of the Ku'tan (Mordor II) was a good game, but more of a roguelike with a fixed dungeon than a Dungeon Master clone.

I'll try the Entobed 3D demo later...
