I doubt that a second kickstarter for merely a vertical slice would have been the way to go for this project. That seemed overly defensive. After the failed first project, kickstarting a demo for an eventual third kickstarter would have been, in my opinion, be very unlikely to succeed.
Pandering aside, the guys seemed to be ok, but I think they lacked the a manager type who makes sure things get done.

There's quite a disconnect between "So very passionate for this~" and "Could be months or years, if ever, no telling as we didn't even bother to spend the slightest amount of time and effort even theorycrafitng in our heads".

I suppose there was some magical reason why they couldn't attempt to pivot their reckoned vertical slice into just doing an Early Access and/or pre-order thing like Grim Dawn or some such? Hell, there's itch.io nowadays among the other outlets to get games out there even aside from Steam that folks would've killed for years ago! You'd think a passion project wouldn't be above going back to the various old ways upon a KS not working out...

Absolutely. It's not like they need that much money anyways, given that they're four people already, including coders and artists. With personal savings, or loans, they could spend a year developing it. THAT would be being "very passionate".

They just fucked up.

It does make me more appreciative of the Seven Dragon Saga guys for holding out after KS failure. Hope there are no unpleasant surprises from there.

Guess they didn't really want to make the game after all.

Well, their main programming guys backgrounds are from modding NWN, so...

Rick Burton
Rick is a veteran "designer" with eight years of "experience" at BioWare having worked on Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Star Wars: The Old Republic and SWTOR: Rise of the Hutt Cartel. He is also the creator of the original Neverwinter Nights mods which inspired Mooncrest.

James Henley
James is a "developer" of ten years "experience" who originally joined the industry via the Neverwinter Nights modding community.
