Big Boss talking with Solid Snake at the end of MGS 4 was worth it all. After playing through them all and going back to watch that scene it has a lot more emotional impact. At least it felt that way to me. MGS4 is more like an interactive movie at times. I could turn that shit on right now and just sit back and watch aside from the occasional playable segment. Hell, they should have a button to skip the gameplay. I guess they call that Youtube. :)

Despite its polish MGS4 ruined the entire fucking series and the Big Boss scene was one of the most nonsensical in the game.

You can't respect anyone who likes MGS Twin Snakes but MGS4 is okay even with its lore breaking ass pulls and garbage plot?

Guys, is Kojima supposed to be this bad at writing? I mean, Metal Gear Solid 1, tried playing it yesterday on emulator but I can't take it anymore, no exposition about really important stuff while crazy minutes long cutscenes of boring exposition about banal shit or Snake talking endless platitudes about war that you could take from any generic anti-war journalistic piece. From what I'm hearing, is MGS V writing worse than this? How could that be?

Are you playing Metal Gear Solid from seventeen years ago or the updated version MGS Twin Snakes? I'd highly recommend the latter just for the better gameplay experience.

For the military action genre MGS is very deep and complex. Remember the earlier games were released when most people including gamers were flag saluting cuckservatives.

MGS3 is truly the apex of the series tho and possibly the greatest Cold War story ever made. As a mostly self contained prequel you could just play that and move onto MGSV.

MGS 4 just didn't meet fans expectations much the same way MGS 2 didn't when it came out. MGS 4 had a lot of problems but at least it had an ending that wrapped things up well enough. Twin Snakes butchers the cinematography, the score, the voice acting and several other things, which makes me wonder why people bother in the first place. It all boils down to people complaining about the controls and the graphics in the original MGS so people recommend Twin Snakes. Sorry, but that is an inferior version of the game whether it has fancy graphics and controls or not. MGS 4 might have pissed some people off by turning worthless characters from MGS 3 into the Patriots, essentially answering questions that didn't necessarily need answering, but it was 100% Metal Gear. No one should have been surprised at what they got with MGS 4. If you like Kojima's games you know he doesn't give fans what they want.

Are you serious? If you're talking just the greatest video game Cold War story then it might be a serious contender but you cannot possibly believe the story of MGS3 can stand against any decent Cold War movie.

Anyway
MGS1 is still head and shoulders above the best other AAA studios have managed to churn out for cutscenes ... but especially because they use camera angle, motion, music, color palette, lighting, and pacing in a fully realized cinematic style.

MGS1 is full of clumsy use of camera angles, camera moves and editing. Looks more like the experimentation phase of an amateur trying to imitate something he saw in the movies (and failing.) Much more solid in MGS3 but the pacing went out of the window. How many minutes of Ocelot doing tricks with his revolver does MGS3 have?

There aren't many Cold War movies unless you count James Bond which MGS3 draws inspiration. The Cold War genre is also very stale/cliche unlike MGS3.

Kojima whatever his shortcomings is a research and entertainment buff once arguing that the history of the Cold War hasn't yet been written and I agree....

Fuck my life I wish Angry Spic would just die. I can't believe there are people dumb enough to like his ridiculously cringe-worthy intros, much less his actual 'reviews'.

Sure it has. The Soviet Union got it the way of creating an American world order, we cucked them into submission, and now we run shit.

Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad one.

BTW

"HQ, I've seen a box moving, how I should proceed?"
"Here HQ, are you sure about that?"
"Yes, a box is moving, what should I do?"
"You have permission to shoot"
(Get out the box and leave it alone)
"HQ, I shot the box but nothing happened"
"Here HQ, return to the base for a psychical examination"

Blame Inchon and a changing political climate for that. The Korean War's still a sore spot for the Chinese and both Koreas, and it lacks the romanticism of the Second World War and the elaborate spy-games of the Cold War, so it hasn't really caught on in the minds of Americans, either.

I don't know what the fuck is going on.
I watched the credits roll after destroying that robot and after that "Chapter 2" appears.
The overall progression is at 42%

19 chapters ahead of you, only six of which have new content in them, the other thirteen are rehashes of Chapter 1 missions with different modifiers added on to them, and aren't actually critical to progressing the game.

Do all the main missions and side-ops that're marked as important (i.e. have a yellow circle next to them as opposed to the blue one) if you wanna get the 'true' ending.

And it ended in a total anti-climax.

Weird thing is that I got into the second part and did all of the missions available to me that had the gold circle next to them, and now I can't do any more. The only gold things in my PDA are a deployment mission and that Battle Gear hangar. I can't do the deployment mission because I don't have the right truck, and I can't do anything in that hangar, even though there's an objective marker there. Do I just have to tough it through the repeat missions like a bitch?

I'm not entirely sure. Think you have to do Mission 42 and under to progress, and those aren't terribly hard to finish, especially if you've got Quiet with you, but any of the modified missions from there-on out can be safely skipped.

If you have done Mission 42, and nothing's happened yet, do around two or three side-ops. When I finished that one, nothing happened for me until I completed a couple, then got a call from Miller telling me to come back to base to do a story-mission, so that might do the trick for you.

Last time that happened it ended up being steam or some shit. Not saying that is the case since I saw that as well earlier.

It's just steam I'm afraid. I'm not sure why Konami HQ would generate that much heat: maybe it's because the heating is fueled by the burned corpses of employees.

I has sad.

I conceived in my mind an extremely lulz weapon using the Kabarga as base: A shotgun with a shotgun attached, and the longest range non-variable sniper scope possible. I would have called it the DSP-3000. But alas, it cannot be made for Kabarga only takes foregrips for undermounts.

On another note, anyone else prefer using the 3X Rangefinder scopes for their customized assault rifles instead of dot/2X/4X/variable optics? I find the magnification optimal and the color-changing crosshair makes it easier to take snap shots.
