I have only one thing to say to those fucking Terminators

1390293476315.png

They ruined my chances to ever fuck a shield maiden. :negative:

I will await my turn to join the forces of inquisition.

BTW. Killing almost 30 tys people with a nuke just to kill a dozen of aliens seems a little bit excesive. But who am I to question the emperor's will. I have to blame those who forced his hand.

Why am I not risking my life at the xeno-purging frontlines yet Ulminati?

Soon™.
Recruits are drafted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Your number is up next. So as soon as someone dies, you'll be ushered to the front.

THE MONTH OF DECEMBER

After Red November, we need to rebuild and re-tighten our collective anuses.

The month starts on a high note. The research of advanced battle armour is completed and production begins.
5p0rSGQ.jpg

The next wave of UFOs arrive. Since we can only have 3 planes in a squadron, the extra condor is sent to the Asian base to help intercept UFOs in the east.
n5g6ceX.jpg

2 Foxtrots and a Condor are enough to handle most enemies, now that we have Alenium missiles and gatling lasers. Unfortunately, we've yet to recieve the new recruits. Rather than sending 3 soldiers to a crash site, it is nuked from orbit. $50k is collected. Way less than clearing it on foot would've netted. But beggers can't be choosers.
BWPanPe.jpg

A medium scout—and we've yet to clear one of these on foot—is downed. A perfect baptism of fire for the newly arrived recruits!
lsimY4w.jpg

Storyfag joins us from the French marine commandos. His accuracy and health leave something to be desired. But the batch of candidates was truly abysmal.
82oPtA1.jpg

Eklektyk leaves his buddies in the Jægercorps behind and changes this snazzy uniform:
5128102-.jpg

For denim pants and a frag vest. :negative:
His adequate strength and impressive amount of hitpoints makes him a suitable Shieldmaiden.
3UJsKOk.jpg

He is joined by Comte. Aziras fellow Cybernegro, formerly of the Navy SEALs.
3ncexlN.jpg

ERYFKRAD joins us from the Swedish Kustjagarna. He hopes to one day succeed LundB as designated Shotgun Murderswede. CIS Sis will not relinquish her shotgun for now though.
xAKVaBf.jpg

We've had time to manufacture a sniper rifle. Azira exchanges his rocket launcher for it, since his accuracy has skyrocketed during his time with us. We don't have a scatter laser yet, but it is being assembled.

Scrooge is still in transit, and will not join us just yet.

rEESkln.jpg

The UFO is crewed by Sebilians. As luck would have it, we spot them at range. Since the reptiles have lousy aim, the rookies are instructed to keep their distance and take time to make sure their shots fly true.
dIBIt60.jpg

ERYFKRAD cares not for womanly tactics and uses full auto to claim the first kill among the new rookies. :salute:
hoQTTHu.jpg

Meanwhile, the veterans are moving up the flank for a pincer maneuver. They are ambushed by a sebilian hiding in an abandoned house.
aRDSMvM.jpg

Eklektyk weathers the return fire from behind his riot shield.
zY3E67Z.jpg

Then pops a cap in the mole for our second kill claimed by a rookie in the mission. :salute:
Z34MfAB.jpg

The Medium scout. The first time we've seen one up close.
ouU8UQI.jpg

The lizard leaves the safety of the abandoned house. It is swiftly suppressed by stabby.
ktuKy0M.jpg

And softened up from afar by Azira.
yAyFgWN.jpg

Meanwhile, CIS Sis gets inposition for a Murderswede Glory Rush™.
ckzCzK0.jpg

Executed the next round. POint blank buckshot to the back of the head! :smug:
0dtpaTu.jpg

And Azira claims the skull of the other lizard. :salute:
aMORf3b.jpg

Breaching is easier than medium UFOs. The door opens directly into a large room. All the defenders are within range of a flashbang.
XXn05CM.jpg

CIS Sis takes out the first two defenders
sNQWylp.jpg

vLhtU8t.jpg

Storyfag suppresses the last defender.
VSj8g1Q.jpg

Since the remaining lizardmen won't have enough TUs to both move and shoot, we close the door and deny them the chance to return fire. :smug:
Also, at some point during the exchange, ERYFKRAG got shot in the back by an overeager Comte :x
OU6wyDp.jpg

We open with another grenade.
uKsYG1H.jpg

Sniper fire.
2V8eh4L.jpg

ERYFKRAD takes care of the unsuppressed lizard.
hyzKCug.jpg

And the UFO is cleared. :salute:
fhqaIwr.jpg

All in all, that was one of the smoothest baptisms of fire imaginable. While recruits perform this well in service of the Emperor, there is still hope for Terra.
76UoLrC.png

The eggheds report on the medium scout:
iHON2I8.png

Despite his lack of kills, Storyfag won the weightlifting competition back at base to determine who could carry the heaviest gear. He is granted the chapters scatter laser, fresh from the foundries of our techpriests.
NcMRCDW.jpg

And Scrooge shows up fashionably late. With excellent stats in everything except strength, I have high hopes for her. Once we get a bigger dropship, she'll make a worthy secondary sniper.
DJqGfNW.jpg

The Eggheads also finish researching Alien Electronics, which leads to a wealth of new research topics.
mTBnktO.png

We can't afford the Corsair yet. And I've never liked tanks in XCOM games, so the Scimitar is not a priority. The EMP Grenades however, are really nice. They have a shorter stun range than flashbangs, but deal lethal damage to terminators and cyberdisks.
YTETh53.jpg

Another wave of UFOs. Asia still hasn't got the planes to deal with escorted mediums. But 2 unescorted light UFOs are shot down in northern Africa. This is a godsend. The soldiers are in desperate need of experience before the next terror site pops up.
RLUKpI3.jpg

Furthermore, we're blessed with Caesarians. Their psions aren't too terrifying just yet. And they're reasonably fragile, sllowing the recruits to rack up kills and experience.

Storyfag claims his first kill. :salute:
nAF1Do6.jpg

As dees Scrooge :salute:
AMvzXKI.jpg

The Caesareans are utterly outmatched. EMP grenades and CIS Sis cleans house.
z5g7sua.jpg

A couple of milestones are hit. Azira passes 5 kills while CIS Sis passes 10. It took a while, but our replacement Shotgun Murderswede is finally finding the rythm.
HCVpGOd.png

Since there's plenty of fuel left in DA CHOPPA, it's redirected to the other crash site.
FTbHQcs.jpg

A second Condor arrives in asia. They're scrambled to attempt to fight off the medium UFO with escorts.
pKLobjT.jpg

....But Condors are shit. :x
XSmSljF.jpg

The second UFO is a small scout, crewed by Lizards, in broad daylight.
bnG6NRJ.jpg

...they didn't put up much of a fight. :smug:
dO5hquC.png

With weapons production completed, we turn our engineers towards the newly developed battle armor. CIS Sis pulls rank and claims the first set. But the remaining troops are kitted out in short order. Except for Azira, who's still too feeble to carry both armour and rifle. :decline:
RJmRARC.jpg

The mid-month wave of medium UFOs arrive. Without escorts for some strange reason. We cannot do anything about the ones over Asia—the shitty condors are still beign repaired. But the UFO over Russia is downed.
wlI6CNL.jpg

It is a night mission of Caesarans and Cyberdisks.
5iZuWSX.jpg

Our streak of luck continues. No tasteful rape occurs. CIS Sis and Scrooge perform some synchronized bleeding, but return to normal after about a week. Stabby claims his 10th kill.
pYrDGXJ.png

The eggheads develop jetpack armor. It is too expensive and offers too little protection to issue ot front-line troops. Snipers, however, can make good use of this.
z1mJUIs.jpg

Azira rejoices as he is finally granted a new uniform.
TJDztSN.jpg

A landed UFO tends to yield greater rewards than a crashed one. DA CHOPPA is sent out with a condor for cover
3Ou3BJp.jpg

jTCFIbP.png

A large number of Caesarean troops are lurking in a field just north of our landing site.
igFkeqW.jpg

Azira makes good use of his new jetpack. Jumping over the walls, and deliverign swift death to the Alien.
w5FleR1.jpg

Scrooge graduates from the academy of Skeet Shootan
MVKQNBJ.jpg

A few rounds later, resistence outside the UFO is silenced. The actual breaching was rendered trivial by spamming flashbangs, since Caesarans are vulnerable to those.
DkoXpmC.jpg

2 of the rookies both claim their 5th kills during the breaching.

:salute: ERYFKRAD and Scrooge are no longer noobz. :salute:
NCxxg8J.png

The dropship is redirected to the crash site (cheap XP is cheap XP). The condors are finally repaired in asia, and sent to inestigate our first "Very Small" UFO.
npaI1iX.jpg

Turns out it's a heavy fighter. They don't yield a crash site, but they will intercept and attack your aircraft if your squadrons are weakened.
W9vDfCd.jpg

The fighter is met head-on. The condors scatter to determine which one is being targeted by the Xenos.
Je0AYXw.png

Having determiend who the bait is going to be, the other Condors break off to get behind the UFO
oTdV40e.png

And it is easily destroyed. :smug:
gzzuXXg.png

Another medium UFO is shot down, this time over Norway.
A1o7yVm.jpg

This time it is crewed by Androns. the new EMP grenades prove highly effective against them.
mfyiFLl.jpg

Storyfag is beginning to get used to his scatter laser. Another entrant into the 5 Xenos killed club. After a relatively peaceful month, the recruits have been molded into efficient killing machines. They still haven't got the stats of the old Krew, but they should be ready for the next terror site.
8koiy2g.png

The eggheads continue studying the heretical technology of the foul Xenos
tzElArj.png

OqgDtlC.png

Finally! We need these babies badly. The corsair is a vastly superior version of the Condor. It matches speed with the Foxtrot (so they aren't slowed down in mixed squadrons), and is more maneuverable and durable. Plus it has a longer range before running out of fuel. They require a signifigant investment in alenium and Alien Alloys. But they're well worth the cost.
YKfRxHb.jpg

More UFOs descent upon Holy Terra as December draws to a close.
71UXC81.jpg

A new ttype of UFO is spotted—the Landing Ship. Foxtrots are scrambled, but fail to bring it down. :x
4mF2g9l.jpg

Our fleet of aircraft.
BSb30rq.jpg

December is the first month in which we've had a positive change in funding. Is this the turning poitn we've been awaiting?
moDEKre.jpg

The Kodex Kool Krew, as of Jan 1st 1980

Commander CIS Sis is the last surviving member of the original 8. She's interited the ancestral spirit of the Murderswede. Her high number of time units allows her to get close and personal with foul xeno scum. She is also our kill leader with 19 confirmed Xenos dead, and the only living Xenonaut to clear a terror site. :salute:
z23eg3y.jpg

Stabby is beginning to come into his own. He consistently manages a kill in every mission. His lacklustre strength is my main gripe, as I had to remove the medikit from his loadout to avoid encumberance.
DvLikqR.jpg

Azira has taken over where Ashery left off. Only, unlike his predecessor, Azira shoots enemies in the back instead of his allies. :smug:
KeN1Uvx.jpg

After a dissapointing start, Storyfag showed his true wirth when his tiny rifle was replaced by a weapon of mass destruction. Who needs accuracy when you're spraying death in a cone? I have high hopes for him, although he is nowhere near as proficient at range as Angelo was.
9a7v7nT.jpg

Eklektyk has been a solid performer. While he does not get the glory of kills, his aim has been true when launching grenades and he never flinched under fire. He is the reason our breaching operations all went so smoothly this month.
pnUOQBR.jpg

Comte, on the other hand, has been dissapointing. He missed 3 flashbangs and stunned his fellow Xenonauts twice. Don't send a nigger to do an Aryans duty I guess. :decline:
4caPeaF.jpg

Eryfkrad is another solid performer. The riflebros tend to work in concert, sharing kills amongst each other.
jySQMFP.jpg

The same goes for Scrooge, even if she was a latecomer. Like Stabby, she is not really strong enough to carry her gear around. I may have to reassign her to sniper duty alongside Azira, as strength is the only stat she doesn't have in abundance.

Game's looking awesome, it's impressive to see how it's changed since the last time I checked it out (few years ago, probably even pre-alpha then).

Sign me up for horrible raep an honorable death.

Game was already on my wishlist. Now it's a definite buy. :salute:

Will probably wait a while though, as I have too little time for the games I play already. :M

If you ever need more meatshields recruits, count me in.

Let's see if we can keep the glorious tradition of me dying on the first mission of any X-COM LP I join.

Do you still have to fight through three squadrons of fighters every time you transfer shit from base to base? This left me very butthurt and made me quit with the last alpha I played. That and the AI were my only gripes at the time though.

They do however gib enemies and their equipment, which means less money made from missions, am I right?
In the original, that only happened if you used the largest rockets in a direct hit on the weakest enemies. There were, of course, no shortage of enemies that had no real loot value and needed the pummelling of a rocket barrage. Not to mention walls, floors, and other targets which were easy to hit in ways that would damage enemies, but themselves had no loot value. All I know is that I didn't notice any shortage of loot from rocketing my enemies.

I got the images ready when I get home. I'll write some text for them after dinner and upload.

Also, I can haz knives for RIPTEARKILL pl0x?

No knives. I can give you a shock rod, but they're pretty ineffective at this point in the game.

This might seem like a damn fool question, but where're the melee weapons at? Or are there none?

Yes. It is a damn fool question, considering I just answered it a page ago.

Do you still have to fight through three squadrons of fighters every time you transfer shit from base to base? This left me very butthurt and made me quit with the last alpha I played. That and the AI were my only gripes at the time though.

The only things that are transferred across the geoscape are planes. Equipment doesn't get shot by UFOs.

January ticks over. Our first Corsair is still 2 days from being ready. Corsair/foxtrot squadrons should give us the edge we need in the air war. Although it will take some time before we can afford to build enough.
c2iS2Nd.jpg

Fortunately, the aliens seem content to give us a breather. A comparison of the Corsair and the Condor follows. While the corsair cannot equip missiles, it is far more durable, maneuverable and above all—faster. Corsair/Fix squadrons should be able to chase down UFOs, rather then rely on the UFO flying towards them.
5jagWv1.jpg

9KaqjDQ.jpg

The excess Condors are shipped to Asia, where they meet limited success fighting off lesser threats.
kf9xZJU.jpg

u5ORhw5.jpg

The eggheads complete the design of our new dropship. It is faster and has a higher carrying capacity. It still doesn't carry any weapons, so it may need escorts to landed UFOs or when enemy fighters are in the air. Asking in the shoutbox for a sitting name, it was decided that DA CHOPPA should be replaced by Steve Irwin.
ooyVJZ5.jpg

the next wave of UFOs arrive. We manage to down 2 of them before our fighters run out of fuel and ammo.
00g1tDE.jpg

UD1wGdR.jpg

The ground crew is dispatched to handle the first UFO. It is a relatively routine scout UFO. Azira takes time to play around with his new jetpack and popping moles from elevated terrain.
Z4xrdbg.jpg

But as the team moves into position to clear the UFO, the Aliens decide not to wait. A lizard rushes out the UFO, dodges all reaction fire and shoots Storyfag in the back! :x
pu3Zndj.jpg

:salute: RIP Storyfag :rip:

The aliens had Shotgun Murderswedes too :negative:

The death of his comrade is quickly avenged by Major Stabby.
RlZhhv0.jpg

ERYFKRAD also turns his fury upon the foul xenos. It was his shameful reaction fire misses that allowed the Xeno to kill Storyfag. :decline:
e0J85Q4.jpg

The mission was successful. But we lost our Heavy Weapons Bro.
EImNRvT.png

And en route to the second crash site, the Xenos go all Godzilla on Tokyo! :rage:

I was seriously tempted to go "Fuck the Japs" and let them nuke Tokyo. We were one man down, and he was the guy with the scatter laser. We can't reassign his weapon (as far as I know) until they get back to base. Hopefully the devs will fix that.
The shoutbox demanded blood however. "Purge the alien!" "No mercy for the Xeno scum!" "Dongs!" "Smite the Heretics!" were their cries of outrage.
V3bDt34.jpg

At their urging, I fired up XSplit and streamed the terror site live. Fortunately it turned out to be Caesarans during the day. Which is probably the least rape-y combo we could meet.

Archived copy of the stream below. Some pauses when I was chatting in other windows. Also, the music stopped when I was tabbed out.

Terror site medals for everyone.
stabby claims a long service medal for surviving 10 missions with us.
CIS Sis (aka Sam E Corners from CDS) is the first to earn the Order of Terra for 20 confirmed Xeno kills. :salute:
Azira claims his 10th skull for the skull throne, proving a far better marksman than Ashery ever was. :smug:
And Eklektyk gets his 5th kill. Which is quite an achievement for a shieldmaiden. I may have to promote him to carry a bigger gun.

UVOxVP1.png

B4a9Ixx.jpg

It's clear we'll need more bodies to tackle larger missions soon. So the construction of the Steve Irwin commences.
VS2ODO8.jpg

Meanwhile, our scientists unlocks the secrets of encasing the body of a fallen battle brother in an armoured dreatnaught of titanium and steel. As soon as we can afford it, this should allow one of our fallen to serve once again.
OsUjGvo.jpg

We also finish interrogating one of the captured lizardmen. Studies of the alien fluids in its bloodstream allows us to upgrade our medkits. :incline:
1PQ0pdn.jpg

The Steve Irwin is completed. Some space is reserved for the future Dreadnaught. But there will still be room for additional Xenonauts.
Abb2RVT.jpg

Meet Private Hellraiser. Hailing from glorious Polant, her solid strength, accuracy and health stats make her ideally suited to inherit the scatter laser left behind by Storyfag. :salute:
rzCTxhN.jpg

Joining him is private The Brazilian Slaughter. :salute:
Oddly enough, he lists his previous experience as the Marine Jaeger Kommandos in Norway. With decent all-round stats (except reflexes and health), he is given one of our spare laser rifles. We've run out of advanced armour at the moment. More will be fabricated once the Dreadnaught is complete. But for now, I'm sure a flak vest will do. :troll:
AtXBSUH.jpg

Finally, say hello to private dextermorgan. Hailing from Czechoslovakia, he fills our potato quota. He has great rookie stats in everything except time units. Fortunately, time units are the easiest stat to raise. Once we get some spare equipment, I could easily se ehim becoming a secondary Shotgun Murderswede™. :salute:
DbMZSc3.jpg

Before that however, we are presented with an unique oppertunity. A landing ship has, well, landed nearby. We've yet to shoot down one of these over land. Even though it's going to be a night time terror site, the chance to salvage one of these is too good to pass up. The Steve Irwin is sent out with a Condor escort.
JPVEFhd.jpg

Unlike the old Chinook, the Shrike does not have side doors. It does, however, have very big loading ramps both at the front and rear.
kqW3AHy.jpg

Following the battle plans laid out in the Kodex Kastrates, the shieldmaidens scout ahead and toss flares to illuminate the foul Xenos.
3brFoJj.jpg

First contact! Eklektyk runs into a lizardman turning the corner. A single shot of alien plasma completely disintegrates his shield! He tosses an EMP grenade to disorient the foul creature.
32gcV86.jpg

And CIS Sis storms around the corner to deliver the Emperor's judgement. The xenos brought the big guns to the party.
8Ht880v.jpg

Ambush! While the scouts were clearing the sides of the house, an alien storms through the door! Caught completely by surprise, Dextermorgan doesn't even have time to scream before he is incinerated by white-hot plasma.

:salute: RIP Dextermorgan :salute:
I guess a flak vest didn't suffice after all. :negative:

qW2WCMO.jpg

CIS Sis is quick to avenge the fallen.
Ni53dvk.jpg

A new type of alien is discovered! It proves resistent to the EMP Grenades.
txYrJbc.jpg

We don't need it alive badly enough to risk a round of return fire. Hellraiser commences execution.
KV5j9jA.jpg

More of the new foe arrives from behind. Azira is injured, but lives.
QRMCu22.jpg

And stabby claims the kill. These bros are pretty fragile.
t37hKZM.jpg

The landed landing ship. This is the first classic "saucer" design we've seen. The wide entry hatch is ominous. What kind of horrors are these designed to spew forth?
M3XIbf5.jpg

Not many guards at the door. Flares are thrown to illuminate the cargo bay. A pair of strange glowing pads are visible in the rear of the vessel.
IpjbAbu.jpg

These soon begin spewing out aliens at us. Reaction fire is plentyful. Unfortunately for us, the crates in the middle of the cargo bay provides the aliens with excellent cover. Little damage is done.
XNpyNoD.jpg

Hellraiser sprays death down the length of the UFO. While her shots fail to connect, the lizards don't press their luck and keep their heads down.
cp1X3ws.jpg

What lizards couldn't be taken out by shots are gibbed by alenium grenades shortly after.
lt7ESuY.jpg

The respite is brief however, as the teleportation pads spew forth more enemies. Several minutes pass. Hellraisers suppressive fire limits their reaction fire.
6dYORUf.png

Eventually, the teleporters stop disgorging enemies. The inside is filled with debris, laser burns and the smell of schorched alenium.
VQ1UXio.jpg

Since most of th emen are on their last clip, we take a pause to rearm before braving what lies beyond the teleporters. Some of the men unload their weapons and pass laser clips down to their comrades.
fRZ6FpS.png

they then arm themselves with the weapons of the fallen aliens. They suffer a huge accuracy penalty (I think it's ~-50%) for using their guns. But it's better than nothing.
B85DQjC.png

The upper deck is quiet. 2 doors lead into the bridge. We've seen several aliens moving around up here through the outside viewports. The breaching is expected to be bloody.
KLroU9y.jpg

Grenades and suppressive fire keeps the lizards starved of TUs. For several rounds, we abuse the fact that doors are cheap to open and close. no alien has enough TUs to move to the door, open it and shoot after suppressive fire.
8GVhgU3.jpg

Eventually, the order is given to breach. Azira claims our first kill with alien tech. Point blank use of the assault plasma negates most of the accurcy penalty it would've given.

The brazilian slaughter is not so fortunate. An alien was hiding in the corner, out of our sight. As soon as the breach began, reaction fire melted his face.

:salute: The brazilian slaughter :salute:
So very close to surviving his first mission. :(
MXbWlGb.jpg

The foe proves tougher than anticipated. Even with most of their cover gone, we don't have enough frepower to kill the remaining enemies in a single turn. Several xenonauts are badly injured by an alien grenade.
:rage:
CL0yGfq.jpg

But Eklektyk ends the threat, and we claim our prize. :smug:
FxdysLv.jpg

Post-mission results. Good thing we have a hospital to speed recovery.
Commander CIS Sis earns the military cross for 5 shotgun executions in a single mission :salute:
Stabby, having served with honor and courage recieves a just promotion to Commander.
Azira celebrates his 10th mission without being sent into the jaws of oblivion.
Comte and Scrooge continue to rise through the ranks.
ERYFKRAD claims his 10th kill and the Order of Merit that goes with it :salute:
3CY5DXl.png

The eggheds finish cutting into the corpses of the new kind of Xeno we found. some kind of alien marksman. Good thing we encountered them at night, as the low light conditions no doubt made their range less of a threat.

Storyfag's story is over.
Brazilian Slaughter got Slaughtered
And the Czech did what all Czechs did before WW2 just rolled over and went down without any resistance.
