Let's play Star Wolf!
a 3-D space RPG, or so they say.

A trailer you can watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FQIzhP9itk
StarWolves0.jpg

StarWolves1.jpg

Intro: Human space empire is governed by the Prime Minister, who is controlled by the Emperer. Economics of the Empire are under the total control of three mega corporations. etc etc etc

StarWolves2.jpg

This is you! Hotshot pilot!

StarWolves3.jpg

Of a freighter...

StarWolves4.jpg

Hero.jpg
'We have guests.'

StarWolves5.jpg

StarWolves6.jpg

Pirates!

StarWolves7.jpg

StarWolves8.jpg

StarWolves9.jpg

StarWolves10.jpg

You escaped in a pod.
2nd Intro starts when you click start.
StarWolves11.jpg

You meet your new 'bubby' in a bar.

StarWolves12a.jpg

Hero.jpg
'Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say.'

StarWolves13.jpg

Meanwhile, outside the spacestation, a ship approaches, chased by fighters.

StarWolves14.jpg

The pilot.

StarWolves15.jpg

StarWolves16.jpg

Ace.jpg
'That's my craft!'

StarWolves17.jpg

Hero.jpg
'Looks like we will be losing our high-end equipment and will be starting with noob stuff. And this isn't even the sequel!'

StarWolves18.jpg

Ace's ship getting away.

StarWolves22.jpg

Create your character.
You are stuck with this portrait as well as voice and gender.
But you can change your name and select your specialisation. They are Piloting, Gunner, Rockets and Electronic Warfare
For specialisation, I choose Electronic Warfare cos I know Pi to a thousand places!

StarWolves23.jpg

Ace is your only party member at the start, you can select his Perks.

StarWolves24.jpg

Here you can change your ships' equipment.
The mothership is called Star Wolf. It is a converted transport ship.

StarWolves25.jpg

You start with a 'Naginata', a 1st generation Light Attack Fighter. The current generation is 3rd.
It has 2 light guns, 2 rocket pods and 1 system.

StarWolves26.jpg

Ace is flying a 'Yari', an interceptor.
It has 1 big gun and 1 system.
You have an extra ship in the hanger, the specialist fighter 'Hatchet'. It has more 'system' slots but is a weak fighter.

StarWolves27.jpg

Trading screen. Items are randomly generated after each mission.

StarWolves28.jpg

News screen.

StarWolves29.jpg

Our first mission.

StarWolves30.jpg

Mission Starto!
BTW, there is hardly any speech in this game.
'Some say its so the player can better imagine himself in the characters shoes I personally believe thats baloney and the dev's are trying to save some $$$ on speech.'
But at least your character talks... mumbles will be more accurate.

StarWolves31.jpg

Fly to 'Oxygen' Station.

StarWolves32.jpg

Map view. You can give commands here.

StarWolves33.jpg

Hero.jpg
'For this dialogue there are choices but not much consquences.'

StarWolves34.jpg

Its weird without voice over. Maybe the German original has?

StarWolves35.jpg

Fly to Nav 'Alpha'.

StarWolves36a.jpg

Nothing there.

StarWolves37.jpg

Warning! Warning! UFO detected!

StarWolves38a.jpg

A trailer hiding behind, they are the treasure chests of space games.

StarWolves39.jpg

Your ships will fight automatically according to your 'behaviour'. You can select targets and use special skills.

StarWolves40.jpg

Ace.jpg
'These yellow shirts are no match against our superior skills and equipment. We can also reload if things go wrong.'
Hero.jpg
'But won't that take away the challenge?'
Ace.jpg
'Sure, but remember this is a 3-D space RPG, not a 3-D space tactical game. We reload in RPGs.'

StarWolves41.jpg

Star Wolf will automatically tractor in loot when it is close.

StarWolves42.jpg

To nav 'Gamma'. Enemy detected!

StarWolves43.jpg

StarWolves44.jpg

StarWolves45.jpg

More bad guys.

StarWolves46.jpg

I just turn on special abilities view. The off means missiles cannot be fired. Ace has 1 use for his special ability 'sniper'.

StarWolves47.jpg

Hero.jpg
'Last nav point! Nothing!'

StarWolves48.jpg

Hero.jpg
'Good luck! 'Oxygen'! We Wolves are now gonna kill you and take your stuff!'

StarWolves49.jpg

Ace.jpg
'Navy reinforcements!'
Hero.jpg
'Kill them take their stuff!'
Ace.jpg
'Hold on, these are 3rd generation fighters, we can't kill them. If only I hadn't lost my ship.'
Hero.jpg
'Good luck! 'Oxygen' indeed!'

StarWolves50.jpg

StarWolves51.jpg

Yes.

StarWolves52a.jpg

Hero.jpg
'But the publisher says this a 3-D space RPG, you said its a 3-D space RPG!'
Ace.jpg
'Lets debate whether this game is an RPG while calling each other childish names.'
Hero.jpg
'Lets not shall we?'
Ace.jpg
'The bigger question is whether this LP will end before finishing the game.'

Time consuming indeed. Hope you guys at least get a sense of this game in case I never finish this. I played till the 4th or 5th mission before restarting as a Let's Play Thread.

Behind you.
I actually liked the demo of this game because I thought it was fairly unique. That said, and I think there were discussions of it around this forum, it would have been nice if they'd done it closer to Escape Velocity Nova/Freelancer/etc and allowed the player to roam freely and pick up missions around the galaxy as opposed to the mission chain/map method. Plus I would have liked a trading aspect thrown in. If it had been like that, it would have been a BUYMENOW game.

I know it's supposed to be an RPG but people don't traditionally do "quests" in space. Call them missions or contracts or something.

I almost finished it, but you can't beat the end boss without some weapons (I think it was capital ship missiles, but I'm not sure anymore) you wouldn't normally bother to have, and my last save was too old for me to reload and get that stuff.

I love how that cinematic have shittier grafix than Mass Effect. :)

Otherwise I have to say that this game looks real interesting. I struggled a bit with EVN (I'm going to give it another shot sometime) but I played Conflict Freespace to death. This looks like a nice hybrid.

Possibly, but how about the burden of hideously malformed dick you're forced to carry?
You mean my prae-cock?

True, but it's a known fact that even the western dracoqs must bow to the epic demented prae-cock.
