By the way, had a thought a few days ago so... might as well...

I was thinking, it probably would be a good idea to add a starting screen to the game inviting people to pre-order the game as support for the developing process.
Or visiting the store to put in a few bucks in another way if someone doesnt want to pre-order.

Put in links that someone might need, add a link to the site and forums and voila.
Would be good if you would add a html file with direct links somewhere, my documents or my games folder or whatever (and mention that in the screen in the game).

This screen should go before the game opening screens.
Dont think of it as begining or whatever... its basically just letting people know.

You do have and will have many people testing the demo who dont come to your forums or codex.
And if you get a hundred pre-orders world wide out of it - its a hundred you wouldnt get otherwise.

-edit-

set up a paypal donation account.

I suggest putting it at the end of the demo when a character 'wins'. That's how the old guard did it.

With mod music and big bold fonts saying stuff like WHAT'S IN THE FULL GAME? FIFTY NEW AREAS WITH THREE HUNDRED DIFFERENT NPCS, EIGHTY DIFFERENT WEAPONS AND 300,000 LINES OF DIALOG!

whatever you do don't make it a keygen system that unlocks the full game immediately from the demo :M

I just installed the 0.8.6.0260 version, and I ran into some unfortunate problems. I am unsure as to whether or not they have been brought to light. If they have, I apologise for the spam.

Here goes:

- While the very first image looks fine, the second and third intro images (Iron Tower Studios and the quote) are displayed on the far left side of the screen. Similarly, the exit screen (ad for the full game) is not displayed properly.

- The weapon/shield slots are jumbled and overlap.

- Item descriptions do not appear at all, which makes playing quite a chore.

Also, as has been previously mentioned, there is not enough time to read the text on the loading screen. If would be great if you could add a "continue" button that would appear once the loading is complete, so that we could read at our own leisure.

That has been said so many times and seems to have gone non-acknowledged, I started wondering, just like The Brazilian Slaughter, if it's a programming challenge to do so.

I have this problem in just about every game ever, too. Really amazing how every game from AAA studios to indies misses out on something so simple.

likewise really..
for a site that has Glen Cook quoted in its home page, you sure do not seem to put a lot of weight in story..or you'd be giving me the time to read things through..not good

Pipeweed some of the things you mention i had not even noticed..props :)

As the game is designed for multiple playthroughs to see content, by the 5th or 6th time you won't be reading the text anymore and will be annoyed with the extra click?

I'm not really complaining about AoD per se, just how common this problem is, especially on older games. Oftentimes there's really interesting story tidbits and stuff worked into the loading screens, and they're like OH YOU READ HALF OF THAT IN 0.2 SECONDS? SEE YA.

I have a very severe graphical bug. I installed the 0.8.7.0231 version.
All dialogues look like this:

It's not game-breaking, but it isn't pleasant to look at either. I tried different graphic options and it didn't change. I didn't install the directx that came with the installer.
I didn't have such problems with the previous version on the demo.

If I reload maybe four or fives times, the game crashes on me. It's always as the game is just starting to load. I think this is probably the memory leak you're working on correcting. Posting this on the off-chance it's not.

It's a problem with the AA option and the new dialogue screen. It's fixed in the current internal version :)

Disabling anti-aliasing should fix it in the mean time. Make sure that your card doesn't force it.

Yes, it's a memory leak. We're working on it now and everything else related to performance.
