Fallout New Vegas: Question About Veronica

Hi all - I've searched and searched for an answer to this question, but no luck. I'm hoping someone here might know what is up.

I have Veronica and Rex as companions. Veronica is set on using Melee Weapons and Aggressive, as is Rex. Yet, when there is an encounter, while Rex charges forward into combat, Veronica stands near me and does nothing. Next encounter, a few Freeside thugs, same thing: I take them down with some pistol shots, Rex was running at them, Veronica stands by me and does nothing. I've played with her as a companion for 3 hours now and the only time I've seen her attack is when she is hit herself. I've never seen any other companion act like this.

What is up with this?

It's because I'm a man, isn't it? She's a heterophobe.

No, of course I didn't do that.

Use the console to disable and enable her again. If that fails, remove everything you've given her, tell her to leave, wait a while then tell her to follow you again. Might try taking her to a casino as well?

IRC companions will automatically switch to their default weapons once out of ammo.

Also, consider it quite a blessing she's not helping you - the game has at least some degree of difficulty left...
