"There's another similar stairway. Let's start there and tackle the floorless chamber after." Rhenmyr heads up the stairs and over to the second stairwell.

Rhenmyr ascends back the central passage and crosses the hallway and carefully descends with his torch held aloft. The steps show somewhat recent signs of passage -- scuffling bootprints from the looks of things. Of note, the footprints imprinted in the dust indicate that several men have ascended, but it strikes you as odd that there are no descending prints.

As you continue your descent, your torch reveals a right hand turn and 30' long passage that makes another right hand turn and an open archway.

"Perhaps this leads to the bottom of the floor-less room above. The footprints could indicate someone fell in." Rhenmyr quietly scouts to the archway and peers through.

As Rhenmyr suspected the archway reveals a cylindircal room with an open roof. Under this opening is a thicket of solid bronze spears set into the floor. A closer inspection reveals that there is decent amount of dried viscera on the ends of the spears and several of them are canted over slightly -- their hafts bent. Under these bent spear points is a large pool of dried blood that is caked on the floor and three sets of bloody footprints emerge from this dried blood leading toward the passage you just came through.

Urash is hanging out at the back of the party, listening for anything that could indicate movement in the dense, heavy air of the crypt.

He whispers:

“Could these steps have been made by those things that attacked us earlier? Pray that was all of them...”

"Three sets of prints. There were only two creatures in the other chamber and they didn't look like they had fallen on spears. I'm sad to say it, but we may have competition." Rhenmyr carefully avoids the spears as he checks the room. He pays extra attention to the area with bent spears and the blood pool.

The spears are harmless enough. You can see that they are set into holes drilled into the floor and there is a bit of play with some of them -- three unbent spears could be removed if desired, although they are very heavy and would be tough to effectivelly weild.

Are there any other exits? Anything left under the bent spears or in the blood that may have been dropped bu or fell from the victims pockets?

First off I need to apologize for not posting more often. I've had a helluva time getting back into the groove since my long layoff. I intend to fix that moving forward.

Now that I've got that out of the way ...

The only exit appears to be the tunnel you just came in through or possibly the hole in the ceiling, though it doesn't appear to be designed as an exit.

Finding nothing of interest in the spear pit, Rhenmyr tracks the bloody footprints to see where they go.

For the first 10 or 20 feet, the bloody prints are easy to follow, but they begin to fade from obvious view in the dim torchlight by about the time you get back to the ascending stairs.

you can roll your tracking check (roll a simple saving throw)

Urash, staying a few steps behind:

“Well, what of it? Do you know where the footprints went?”

There is a palpable restlessness in his voice, as he is growing impatient and uneasy in the dark, confined halls.

Rhenmyr tracks the bloody footprints to the top of the stairs, but the criss-crossing of fresh prints obscures any obvious path, except they seem to lead in the direction of the passage leading to the Cult of the Cave Bear shrine/ossuary. The fact that whomever was injured by the spears stopped bleeding strikes you as very unusual.

"I think they headed the way be came. And they should be bleeding more given they fell on the spears. Lets decapitate the creatures in the ossuary before we move on. Just to be safe." Rhenmyr heads back to see to the beheading.

Just to be safe Rhenmyr sets about the grisly work of lopping the heads off of the three abominations faced earlier. It a bit of sawing with your skinning knife and the three heads come free of their host.

One more torch burns out.

The quietude of the crypt is momentarily broken while Rhenmyr saws at necks. A very faint scream echoes through the halls. The sound seems like it came from the direction of the chamber where your troupe entered the tomb.
