I can see CK2.exe take 35-45% of my quad CPU, so its at least doing a little on the 2nd core.

I never got this complaining about performance. I didn't play much with Way of Seduction onwards, but previously the only slowdowns I experienced were with trade post overlay mode - probably graphics-related. Normal time ticking at highest speed was just fine even with wars all over the place. So it would have 10% provinces more, big fucking deal.

You impatient children need to be locked up in room with only Supreme Ruler available to play if you want to know something about bad performance.

Apparently they did some work with the engine in RoI patch so it uses more than 1 core while starting the game and loading saves. Gameplay is still 1 and a half cores tho.

There was an annual rant thread about performance in Paradox forums some time ago (sadly I can't find it atm) and no benchmark there had more than 2 cores working.

Yea, I'm pretty sure my computer would get rofled out of the room in any sort of nerdtalk about rig capabilities, and I don't have problems even with bigger mods.

And in case of Supreme Ruler it's not just that the game has shit performance, it has a timescale that makes the performance feel even shittier! If I were to teach game design, I'd always use Supreme Ruler as an example of why you should always ask yourself not if you could but if you should. I mean, I have a soft spot for SR, just like I have for Battlecruiser/Universal Combat, but goddamn.

On a positive side, you can queue the units you want to build, and go have a good night's sleep.

If only it wouldn't turn into slideshow whenever you are in war.

Or ANYONE is at war, since the AI has a bad habit of allying with everyone, which either means everyone versus one (especially nowadays in newer versions with proxy wars allowed) or world peace.

EDIT: And yea, you can sleep away fairly easily while waiting for the game to pass a few months. You probably won't have to do more than queue units, since you need a few more nights of sleep for tech research to finish and if you actually want to build on nodes you might as well sleep too and go visit a witch doctor the next day so they might cast a spell to allow you to have some control over the game's economic model (seriously, that's probably the biggest mess in the game because you have very little ability to control several far too critical factors like unemployment and inflation).

Extra lulz for the fact that WW2 never gets off the ground in SR1936 because nobody has enough oil for anything, which includes for building things that produce oil. Much lul ensues, and the player conquers the world through the devastatingly clever tactic of building nothing but commandos on foot.

I really wish Lux Invicta wouldn't crash every four years...it has the potential to be one of the best mods.

Maybe if they didn't extend the map to South Africa...but then I remember early versions that still crashed without it (Or India for that matter).

The part where vassals on the council are prevented from joining factions does seem pretty gamey and easy to abuse to prevent revolts. Seems like a huge oversight, otherwise the need to share some more power would seem to be adding back in some realm management difficulty which is always a good thing.

Favors can work I think. It's better than the current system who you just get temporary relations bonuses that quickly decay to nothing before you get a use out of them. Also reminds me of KoDP. Presumably even if Paradox messes the balance up it will still be moddable.

People here are playing the newer DLCs?

I stopped at 2.2.1 after Charlemagne released keeping a torrent and copy of CKII+ for that version on a hard drive. It has never good and none of the newer bullshit. Whatever I don't like I learn to mod out if I can, like removing matrilineal marriages.

Heh, haven't tried the new DLC+patch yet, but from the looks of the game forums it's the usual Paradox post-DLC mess.

Shattered retreat makes wars god damn tedious with invincible defeated armies retreating for thousands of kilometres, ghosting right through hostile forces like they are not there, forcing you to chase them all around the map. Infamy appears to be of little consequences for little realms, but absolutely ridiculous for big realms. Charlemagne taking Saxony results in most of Europe and Africa uniting against him ridiculous, muslim, christians and pagans alike:

Oh, and it looks like they still haven't fixed seduction.

So it's a typical Paradox expansion, wait 6-8 months for it to be fixed in patches and pick it up during a 75% off sale.

Dat Ugric portrait.

Also, given how size is the most important factor in the game, it makes sense for mega-coalitions to form easily against massive states like Charlie's empire. If Charlie was a player now, he could easily spam Holy War to seize just about all of pagan Europe (I do hope it scales with religion size as well, so gobbling up smaller pagans results in more coalitions).

EDIT: Okay, the Ugric portrait pack is probably the best one yet.

PC RPG Website of the Year, 2015 Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
THEY ADDED MY MOST HATED MECHANICS FROM EUROPA UNIVERSALIS 4: COALITIONS, BADBOY POINTS AND INVINCIBLE ROUTING ENEMIES. NOBODY ASKED FOR THIS. NONE OF THESE MECHANICS ARE REALISTIC, AND NONE OF THESE MECHANICS ARE FUN.

I HOPE JOHANN GARGLES A FISTFUL OF RAZOR BLADES.

First I heard of them adding coalitions and shattered retreat, I knew it would ruin the game.

Then I had second thoughts, surely Paradox wouldn't completely fuck it up and it could be done reasonably. Have units retreat 3-4 provinces or so, make things slightly harder for players holy warring half the map in a single decade.

Now units retreating in places with large provinces require literally half a year to chase down and another half year to get back to siegeing the target, and the pope along with half of christendom is joining a coalition with the muslims to stop me from holy warring the muslims.

:dead:

Also the new tax/levy law slider system is pretty dumb, it takes literally 150 years to be able to tax the amount you want. But you can enforce full feminism and legally remove opinion penalties for women rulers in 40 years. Makes sense. Of course if you inherit a new primary title all of your laws get reset and you can kiss your chosen laws goodbye, so unless you stay at the same rank for a century you'll never even see the far ends of the tax/levy scale.

Funny, the Conclave stuff is actually pretty good, it's just the free patch that comes with the DLC that screws everything up.

:1/5: I thought conclave was just a council and childhood fix, you know actually decent changes. Seems they decided to ruin the game with all the shit that makes EU4 suck.

And they couldn't suppress their swedecuck nature for long, allowing feminism laws to quite easily pass. Why not just allow absolute cognatic from day one.

Coalitions and Shattered Retreat are both easily removable and are easy to tweak. Simply go to defines.lua and open it with notepad (notepad++ preferably).

Change the 1 to 0 in the following lines:
LEAVE_COALITION_INTERACTION_ENABLED = 1,
START_COALITION_INTERACTION_ENABLED = 1,
SHATTERED_RETREAT_ENABLED_COMBAT = 1,

This should completely remove both features from gameplay.

There are many other lines that affect both features. You can tweak the features however you want without removing them. For example, you can lower the speed of the Shattered Retreat. It is currently set to 1.3. Changing it to 1 will make Shattered Retreats the same speed as normal armies.

Here are all the ways you can change Shattered Retreat to suit your preferences:

And for Coalitions:

And for anyone who doesn't know, defines.lua is found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II\common
