Remember when BG was scheduled for release on DC and Playstation? Well, a series of videos of the Playstation prototype has been made available on YouTube courtesy of PlayStationMuseum.com. I'm guessing that the music is simply placeholder, but the shitty resolution, the constant fucking loading for dialog, and total lack of spoken dialog makes this thing an absolute clusterfuck of a San Francisco leatherman orgy proportion. On second thought, the speaking lines being absent may also be due to the dev cycle and perhaps the porting team simply didn't have access to them yet.

Part 1: Character Creation
Part 2: Prologue (this music sucks!)
Part 4: Leaving Candlekeep (check out the battle between Gorion and Sarevok)

Those graphics didn't look too good for the Playstation in late 1998/early 1999 actually.

I can't make out much, but they seem to look mostly the same to BG1 on PC. But it's downsampled so much it's not even worth judging them from those videos alone.

I hope they planned to support the playstation mouse because moving that cursor with the analog stick would've been unbelievably bad.

At least it looks like an RPG - something that Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance on the xbox really didn't (it was nothing more than a hack'n'slash but with some character skill selection and various items).

Nor was BGDA supposed to be intended as a RPG. It was an action game. Plain, and simple. if you played it expecting actual role-playing you are an idiot who got what he deserved. It (and its sequel) did well at what they wnated to and were quite fun.

Period.

Woah! There's an example of why that kind of RPGs don't work on consoles, bad control (no mouse or keys), crappy resolution, big text...

Good thing they didn't finish it
