Been getting shellacked by an SCS2 encounter with two black dragons, which leads into a fight with a green, and then an overgrown red lizard. Because of my reticence to go "all out" (I don't like resting in the middle of dungeons, even if the Pocket Plane can justify resting anytime, and I really detest Time Stop abuse), the first phase really drains my resources; the two black dragons are pretty tough, and a few of my typical tactics seem to fail against them. Looked at the .CRE files in the Override and compared them to Nizidawhathefuck'isgoingon, the SoA black dragon, who seemed to be much "softer".

Apparently, they are identical to Nizi, and I need to gitgudfaggot...but I chanced upon some curious findings regardless. There's a lot of immunities and properties attached to both dragons that seem a bit off. I know I installed the component to systematize dragon immunities across SoA and ToB, but I don't recall most ToB dragons, aside from Abazigal, having certain properties, namely:

-Immunity to Blindness
-Immunity to Instant Death and Slaying Attacks
-The ability to see and target Invisible opponents (as a Lich might)
-25% Piercing/Crushing/Slashing resistance
-Regeneration of 2 hit points per second (12 hit points a round; far faster than 21 CON would provide)

It's also interesting that black dragons have more Attacks-Per-Pound (four as opposed to three) and better Armor Class (-12 as opposed to other dragons that only have between -8 and -10) than most other dragon types*, even high-tier dragons like Abazigal and Saladrex.

I'd much appreciate if anyone with a vanilla install (or close enough), would be kind enough to check out a few .CRE files in NearInfinity (or whatever browser you prefer) for me and maybe copy/paste or screenshot the information for:

-dragblac.CRE
-dragblue.CRE
-dragshad.CRE
-FSDRAGON.CRE
-BAZDRA03.CRE

*The green dragon under Geas in Abazigal's lair has 5 APR and the shadow dragon has -12 AC as well in my installation. Oddly enough, the green dragon in the Final Seal of Watcher's Keep has only 3 APR as does the green dragon as part of the SCS2-added ambush.

This is from Big Picture, another AI mod. I think it toughens up dragons a bit but not sure how much:

I'll check the rest later when I have more time.

The vanilla .CRE files should still be there. At least SCS does not change them afaik it just might use its own CREs. You probably want to look in DavidW's scripts. Not every ability is found in the .CRE file, many stuff in SCS is scripted, like abilities, sequencers, spells, contingencies and so forth.

Still need those pictures? I can check them out and put them in here.

On another note, I'm replaying BG2 with some mods, like rogue rebalance, big picture (AI Mod, similar to SCS afaik but not so drastic) etc. and just did the temple ruins quest. Couldn't bother to fight shadow dragon "properly" so I put my two mages to cast lower resistance at him, and just half-a-second later put my cleric cast finger of death on it.

Turned red for a very brief moment and then fell over dead.

Thank you warding stone.

No, I must've been lucky with the rolls.

Bros, I think I am up to some BGTrilogy action. Can you recommend to me some mods that:

a) Work with BGTrilogy mod and as such apply both to BG 1 and 2.
b) Increase challenge without adding cheese factor into equation.
c) Add some new Kits/Spells/Abilities/Items that are not gamebreaking.
d) Introduce new interesting quests are also welcome.
e) Do not conflict with each other.

BTW, I have not played Ascension mod yet. Is it worth it? If so, how to enhance it without breaking it?

I don't use any quest mods, I played with some once and I found them either extremely annoying, badly written, awfully buggy, or all three of the above.
SCS is a must, the best difficulty mod, very compartmented so you can pick exactly what you want (I'm not a fan of short-time autobuffing mages, to say the least), hardly cheesy and very memorable. Reducing XP gained is also a good way to increase the difficulty. I've done all available quests in the game before going to Hell (without Kangaxx and the Twisted Rune) and I still can't cast 8th level spells. It sucks.
Item and Spell revisions are good, they balance stuff pretty nicely, adding some spells, boosting druids a lot and revising most magical items.

Yes if you like tougher battles. There are some other minor changes, but basically it replaces all "boss" encounters, including Watcher's Keep, with tougher versions and changes the final battle as well. Be aware that there was some "It's too tuff, I quit" whining back in the days the mod came out. In my opinion the Demogorgon battle alone is worth it. I'm not sure how it would need enhancing, though.
BTW, I completely forgot Ascension was done by David Gaider. :o

Thanks, but is this the order they should be installed in? Weird for the graphics fixes to be installed first.

I instaled tham that way and it worked fine. And ToBEx to my undertanding isn't just a graphics fix, it's a engine extention/upgrate.
And 5 and 6 positions mods change the animations, sprites and item models, things that all other mods use as a base. Maybe changing them after other mods are instaled will mess up the earlier mods? I don't know .
The only one i'm not 100% sure is if Ascension should be instaled at no2 before the fixpacks, or right after at no4

Add Luizmods somewhere in there. Adds a simple but extremely smart fix to the general attack AI script for party members, amongst other cool stuff.

… that renders a lot of player input redundant, yet still manages to override customised keyboard settings.
I still prefer to play games, and mods that permit me to do so.

All the recent BG discussion has me somewhat wanting to reinstall.

I never actually finished the ToB expansion. By the time I was done with BG1+BG2 (with SCS) I got a bit burnt out and high level DnD is pretty stupid. I never even got to see the ending slides.

Does the content in ToB+Ascension hold up well compared to SCS BG1+2? By that I mean is there still some level of challenge left in the game even though at this point you are uber-geared and can spam timestop+alacrity, greater worldwind, 1k backstabs, etc?

I never played with SCS, which should give you an idea of when my last playthrough took place, but Ascension is pretty much the way the end-game should play. I found it much tougher and interesting than vanilla end-game, and I imagine SCS would make it even more tougher—I read that SCS is fully compatible with Ascension. Do note that it starts only when you confront Balthazar before you enter the Throne of Bhaal, giving you an opportunity to recruit him for the end-game if you are Good-aligned—unless you use the included mods to toughen up the Five and Demogorgon. Let’s just say that the final encounter should take some preparation, strategy, and coordination from your team, but it is one of the most satisfying end-game fights I have seen in any genre.

Ascension is a ok mod but it can't really disguise that the rest of ToB is a dungeon rush shit sandwich. Sure it makes the bosses a bit more interesting mechanically but their C-list tier 'conspiracy' and running around in thematic dungeons is still crap not even mentioning how the ending could be better...
There are a few mods that build on ascension for some fleshing out but... they come attached with weird stuff like 'redeeming' Jon Irenicus or recruiting Baltazhar, modders...

Oh and Viconia dies all the fucking time in Tob if you try to use her as a frontline fighter. Personally i just do watcher's keep (the only good part besides the ending fight and the 'joke' where you recruit some lvl 1 adventurers) and pretend ToB doesn't exist.

Does the content in ToB+Ascension hold up well compared to SCS BG1+2? By that I mean is there still some level of challenge left in the game even though at this point you are uber-geared and can spam timestop+alacrity, greater worldwind, 1k backstabs, etc?

Throne of Bhaal is as challenging as you want it to be, at least with SCS2 installed. It's a cryptic answer, but the most credited one.

No encounter, save a few enhanced endboss-tier scrums (Improved Demogorgon, Ascension Final Battle) can stand against the might of a fully-rested party piloted by a competent player. They won't even stand a chance in many cases, because so much firepower can be brought to bear on them. And this is without indulging in serious cheese, only using "fairer" methods of offense/defense (no Project Image/Simulacrum cheesing to have effectively infinite uses of consumables or whatnot). And, in a stroke of brilliance, Bioware decided to remove any disincentive to rest up after ever encounter; the Pocket Plane makes this a perfectly safe option with no downsides spawned by RNG. Hell, the game even advises the player of this in the combat feedback log when ambushed.

That said, if one restricts resting, SCS2 Throne of Bhaal can be quite fun. Try going through each Bhaalspawn's base without refreshing spells. Instead of being able to bring all guns to bear against every encounter, the player is forced to ration limited-use abilities, conserve spells, and make heavier use of consumables. Going through the ~7 maps of Sendai's Enclave can be a bit draining, and Abazigal's Lair will pit the player against (up to) nine dragons* in one rest (sometimes in pairs). in addition to other enemies in his cave network. This forces one to squeeze the most value out of everything, because saving the "big guns" for the tough fights ahead becomes an overriding prerogative. It's definitely a little metagamey, but if you can stomach it, a lot of fun can be had.

*Probably my favorite addition in an SCS2+Ascension install, especially the
Four dragon fight
with two blacks, then a green, and then a red...with no time in between!
, which is really fun. Ready the Spooks, Symbol(s): Fear, and Insect Plagues!
