In spite of the Paradox takeover, AGEOD may not completely abandon turn based gamers after all.

According to this official unofficial announcement in the old AGEOD forum, fans of the series will get a new game based on the AGE engine and Roman Civil Wars, no later than Q3 2012!

The annnouncement also reveals the content of an additional expansion pack that will be released soon after (Birth of Rome 312 to 236 BC) and indicates that several more expansions are already planned.

The team is said to consist mainly of the same people involved in their previous games.

Read more here and here.

Features
The game enjoys most of the features and improvement from previous AGEOD games, plus some brand new specific features:

• Ancient Command and Supply System (based on the Wars in America system), allowing for a good representation of historical army command in the Roman era.
• Quick and simple system of Construction of Units, allowing players to choose and purchase their forces as they wish (or can) during the annual and grand campaigns.
• Decision features, playable on the map, like wild card assets.
• Diversified set of historical events, allowing multiple choices events and options, thereby enhancing flexibility and re-playability.
• Different updates and other rules, in particular a combat system adapted to ancient warfare and sieges.
• Map: all of the Roman Empire and neighboring lands, with over 2800 different regions and seas, giving a lot of room for maneuvers.
• Over a thousand of new leaders (main leaders have individual portraits) and hundreds units with accurate pictures.

Scenarios
Five scenarios, starting 87 BC till 200 AD, including the well-known “Caesar vs. Pompey” civil war between 50 and 40 BC, or the infamous “Year of the Four Emperors 68 AD”

Scenarios vary in length from a few months to quite a few years (in a monthly turn scale)

Release: Expected Q3 2012, based on the progress of the current Beta.

Price: it has to be confirmed, as the potential distributor has his say here, and talks are still under way now. Will be reasonable though…

First Expansion Pack
After the AJE release, the team developing the game has pledged to commit to its first Expansion Pack (Birth of Rome 312 to 236 BC, with many new scenarios and campaigns in the beginnings of the Republic), which will become available in a date to be announced after the game's release, the first of a series of planned expansions aimed at covering most of the Roman Empire history.

Scenario Packs
Also, in preparation, they have various sets of Thematic Scenario Packs, each covering scenarios or campaigns in a specific theater of operation or versus a particular foe of Rome (in various stages of production now: Longuinqua Britannia, Furor Germanicus, Regnum Dacicum and Bellum Parthicum, planned to be released in sequence over 2012 and 2013)

Modders Scenario Packs
Also, the team would love that some key beta and players have their say in producing original scenarios of their own choosing…the Roman era is large and long enough for this. The game Databases will be available shortly after release to help the volunteers…

The Team
The original team that created AJE consists of Bohémond, El Nino and GPepper & Pangi (artworks), all forum veterans and AGE experts. In addition, a few key forumites here are giving them help and assistance in finalizing the game…Can’t name them all, but they are from the most experienced of our players.

Awesome engine and an awesome setting. Wonder if they'll manage to convey the cutthroat politics of the time or just stick to scenario goals. Either way, very interesting. Thanks, BB!

I wouldn't expect any deep senate politics etc. The focus in AGE has always been on the military side. However, the expanse of the Roman Empires with operations all over the Mediterranean / Europe promise a lot of strategic options.

Not sure what they mean with 1000 leaders. They can not have created 1000 leader portraits?

I also need to find out how many factions are in the game and how many are playabke. It was already confirmed that additional campaigns, for example for the Punic Wars are planned.

commie
The history of the Roman Empire is very substantial. So the decision to create expansions may not only be a moneygrab but also a necessitiy to complete the game in steps. If you can't stand that you should simply wait a year longer until they offer a bundle. You should also accept that such games are in a niche of niches (I bet real time strategy a la paradox sells 100 times more copies) and even an aggregate price of 100$ for game + expansions is still acceptable for many fans.

I also burn out on games like this (often play them for some weeks straight), but then come back a year later. These are no games for in between that's for sure.

Another screenshoot has been released :

I think for AGEOD games the DLC model holds quite well, provided the "base game" is solid enough, and have enough campaigns. Also, the last AGEOD game was priced lower (20 €) at release, to "compensate" the fact that DLC would be added (OK, it was PoN, and the DLC were not very good). AJE will do the same. We can really expect to immediately get the 50+ major wars the Romans get involved in, so either we don't have them at all, or pay extra "per scenario". Moreover, it allows you to get the campaigns that interest you (say - the ones against the Greeks) and skip the ones that don't (say against the Gauls).

I am highly expecting this, in any case. WiA was oustanding, ACW was oustanding, NCP was OKish, ROP was great, RUS was great.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
They actually write it with a J? But it's written with an I in proper Latin! Shit game!

Nah, joking. The game looks promising, and I'm looking forward to what they're going to do with the setting.
I still think writing it as "Jacta" is gay

I was thinking the exact same thing, JF

In general, English speakers cannot into Latin (and spanish etc), can you imagine how they pronounce it:

"Ey-leeah chAhkta ayst"

"Kay sserah sseraaah"

It sounds totally gay.

Beautiful screenshot but they should release hi res versions.
And I absolutely agree on what you say, AACW was the greatest game in the series, WiA and RuS were great but had some flaws.
If AJE is like AACW in the Roman Era, it will be amazing.

They still haven't fixed Revolution Under Siege.

Patches for the games which I am regularly playing - AACW and WiA - are still released five years years after release, and they are very good.

Concerning RUS think it was clear that it was developed by a 3rd party and what I know is, some of its developers lost interest and left, or there were problems behind the scenes. Probably the game simply didn't sell enough.
Now some people from AGEOD have taken over and try to patch the game. I haven't tried the game in a long time.

They also said somewhere that complexity is more like WiA, not like AACW. Should be all right if a variety of roman era scenarios is provided.

But I am still yearning for grand campaigns.
