I agree that DOOM3 has great atmosphere and well crafted scripted events in the sense of horror but i would not call it a game you *have to play*, its fun to play once but then its over. There are better games to play.

Yeah, it does sound like yet another case of a basement nerd having delusions of grandeur and a serious case of deep-set megalomany, but it's actually a p. honest heart-felt opinion.

And nothing I'm particularly proud of, in fact, I find it very depressing.

The merits of DOOM 3 lie not in its game mechanics. In fact it really fails there because it should have been an adventure/RPG game to make the most out of the environments. Think Amnesia The Dark Descent.

But as I said, this is a list that showcases games that really deliver in the artistic department. And I say artistic in the sense that it can actually emotionally engage you and make you feel stuff. Again, I know I'm sounding like a pretentious dickhead but it's really not what I want, it's not supposed to be a "HEY GUYS MY BRIAN IS HUGE YOU SHOULD ALL BOW DOWN TO MY INCREDIBLE GOOD TASTE" thread, but an honest call to give these games a whirl with a more introspective eye, and looking out for good visual design, befitting music, atmosphere, characters and story.

You should really put Counter-strike on the real list.

Also Starcraft 2 multiplayer is pretty fucking good too. Single player is dogshit compared to Starcraft. But yeah everyone and their mother knows that i guess.
At first I liked how StarCraft II's improved interface commands made it shift its focus from micro to macro.

But it's actually funny once you realize, in what is truly an ironic turn of events, that it was SC1's lack of a good interface that made micro skill so important and at the same time made the game so engaging, fast-paced and popular. It was the challenge of having to balance micro and macro in split seconds that made it so fertile in the competitive department and was really the cause of its depth, along with the offer of three well-balanced and varied races.

Artistically speaking, StarCraft II is utter crap. Sounds and voice-ating in particular are completely insufferable. SC1, on the other hand, has fantastic VO, very iconic sound effects, fucking awesome music, and some of the best cinematics you will ever find. Mengsk's speech and Brood Wars's intro are still among the best I've ever watched in a game (hell, even outside of gaming).

PS: Counter-Strike (pre-Source) is FPS mechanics finely chiseled into perfection. If you've been in the competitive CS scene, you'll know just how much depth the game has to offer.

i have 1eyedking, i even played European topteams once and got smashed. Played versus pretty good national teams quite a few times.

Counter-Strike really was a great game.

Bonus points if the guy is supposed to be dumb.

I honestly feel my cognitive skills have taken a heavy blow as of late, while my artsy-feely intuition has increased to astronomic proportions.

I still don't know if that's a good trade...

Playing a bunch of computer games, staring for hours at melancholic romantic paintings, reading obscure literature, listening to depressive music and masturbating to tranny porn.
Added some EDGY.

And there's probably some Codexian right now masturbating to the thoughts of two non-masturbating dudes.
