Such is the rumour.

The gears of Official PlayStation Magazine’s rumour machine have been turning and according to the mag a third game in BioWare’s fantasy role-playing series Dragon Age is currently in production, complete with an all-new multiplayer mode.

The rumor comes from the ‘Inside whispers’ section of the latest issue of OPM, which says: “More elf sexy time! Dragon Age 3 is on the way, with an added multiplayer component”.

Another game in the Dragon Age series seems like a safe bet, of course. Dragon Age 2 made a strong debut in its opening week by debuting at the top of the official UK All Formats Chart and went on to has sell one million copies in less than two weeks.

However, the idea of multiplayer in the next Dragon Age is treading new ground for the series and BioWare as a developer. Both the Mass Effect series and Dragon Age have not yet had any sort of multiplayer, but the studio has expressed an interest in incorporating multiplayer in the future BioWare titles.

Co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka has said how “proud” the studio is of latest title, Dragon Age 2.

Of course he's proud. Dragon Age 2 is like a child to him. A child with trisomy 21.

Eh, no surprise really. It's hard to say whether EA is pulling Bio's strings on this one or not. Has Bio ever really done a good multiplayer game before?
I don't know bio games so I'm not sure.

After DA2 I can't care about the possibility of a multiplayer component hurting the single player one.

NWN1 is no longer part of recorded history?

Hopefully they'll figure out what made NWN1's multiplayer work and NWN2's flop.

DA II sold enough for EA to warrant the production schedule of DA III? Well good good for them.

Multi-player?

Yeah. That certainly is the crux of the problem with the Dragon Age series and will only make it better...

So, can we get a trailer next week and an X-mas release date? Hands-on at E3? C'mon EA, those bastards at Bioware are too slow.

Also, guess they will unveil their "battle.net clone" plans soon. And no LAN, of course.

Insert clever insult here
BG1+2 had multiplayer and NWN was practically built for it.

But as Jaesun said, MP won't help the problems that DA2 had. Maybe they'll ditch the RPG completely and just make it an arcade-action game?

Well EA wants Franchises so after DA:O sold well they though why not pull a CoD with it and release one every Year.

We have really come full circle. Since BG 2 Bioware has gutted their core gameplay and the one thing that made sense to remove in the name of streamlining which didnt work well for BG is back.

Awesome, if they upgrade the hack'n'slash mechanics, we may have a worthy successor to Golden Axe or maybe even Gauntlet but they'd have to let you pull the camera back. No auto-attack for anyone!

They already wanted to do it for DA2.

This is only a little bit to early announced, probably because DA2 isn't selling as expected, and after ME3 the only plausible choice is another game in the ME Universe with a multiplayer mode.
They did it before, maybe going full social is the best solution for them.

Sooo.. 10hr SP?

Seriously though, I doubt it they will bother with MP in a RPG like DA. Mass Effect on the other hand is a better choice.

What's the problem? DAO was supposed to have multiplayer before EA engulfed Bioware. And just imagine how fun pvp will be. Whoever pushes the awesome button fastest wins!

You're right. The real problem is that it wasn't welcoming enough. :smug:

Does this mean I can romance other people in multiplayer? Can I be aggressively gay while playing online?

" probably because DA2 isn't selling as expected"

Bullshit. Have proof of thisn throy outside of the vgchartz which still has the game over a million sold. FFS Why do people feel the need to make shit up. Don't like the game fine, but don't fukkin' lie.

Anyways, it's funny that people proclaimed that DA2 was the 'death' of BIO and DA series yet here we are.. about a month after release already rumoured talk of a DA3. Which shouldn't be surprising since the DA2 ending is made for an expansion/sequel, the game has sold more than a mil in less than 2 weeks, and chances are DA3 was already greenlighted by EA months before DA2 was even released. R00fles!

As for actual topic, DA3 MP will likely suck just like DA1's toolset and mod scene sucked.

They need to do what they did with NWN 'cause that was fuckin' awesome MP/TOOLSET.

DA3 needs no MP component.
